Bernadine Frisbey

Sunday, August 2, 2020, beloved mother, grandmother, and beloved friend to all, Bernadine (Rucker) Goebel Frisbey, passed away at home peacefully at the age of 89. Bernadine was born May 26, 1931, in Mills, New Mexico. Bernadine graduated in 1949 from Springer High School, Springer, New Mexico. During high school, she worked in the Springer High School cafeteria. She married James A Goebel in Taos in 1951, and they started a family in Alamogordo, New Mexico. In 1956, the Alamogordo School system started building cafeterias at the elementary schools. Bernadine was asked to set up the kitchens, including designing the layout, purchasing the equipment, preparing recipes, and menus. In 1975, she joined the workforce as a caregiver and cook. She worked in various cafeterias, including Sunset Villa Nursing Homes cafeteria, St Marys Hospital cafeteria, and the New Mexico Rehab Hospital - Roswell cafeteria, where she retired. For many years, she also found her calling working as a caregiver at Sunset Villa Nursing Home, St Mary’s Hospital, for Home Health, Veterans Hospital in T or C, New Mexico, and as a dorm director for New Mexico Rehab Hospital - Roswell. According to her gratitude journal, she enjoyed listening to people and their stories. She appreciated her alone time, and after working in her yard, she took pride in seeing the fruits of her labor. Upon retirement, she began acquiring miniature doll houses. Eventually, her collection grew to include seven doll houses and a schoolhouse. Her decorating skills included multiple furnishings, a school bus, and an outhouse. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Kruger Rucker; her mother, Rosetta Brooks (Evans) Rucker; and her two brothers, Alvin Reid Rucker and Elmer Dale Rucker. Those left to cherish her memory are her three children: Reida Henry, BJ Goebel, and Lorna Goebel. Grandchildren: Greg, Raeana, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Samantha, Julia, Ashley, and Caiti; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
