Effie Mae Likes

Our precious Mae Likes, 91, died April 24, 2016. She was born May 25, 1924, in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Ira Everett Igert and Elsie Rupert Igert. On August 29, 1942, Mae married Frank Likes. Together, they moved from Benton Harbor, MI to Roswell in 1962. In 1969, they relocated to El Paso, TX, leaving there in 1981 for Louisiana. Their final move was back to Roswell in 1989. Mae was meant to serve, not to be served. She volunteered her time and love in many nursing homes in the different places she lived. Volunteering by caring for elderly widows in their homes was also an expression of Mae’s spirit of giving. While living in Louisiana, her husband served several churches as pastor. Mae was always by his side, serving and working. She served in the Parent Teacher Association during her children’s school years. The American Legion Auxiliary was another place Mae actively served. Preceding Mae in death was her husband, Frank Likes who passed in January 2004; a son, David Likes who passed in April 1970; two brothers: Carl Igert and Lawrence Daisy; and four sisters: Lelah Jenkins, Florence Nelson, Goldie Burkepile, and Dorothy Daisy. Her spirit will be carried on by son, Robert Likes and wife, Sharron of Kodac, TN; daughter, Patricia Smith and husband, Craig of Raeford, NC; daughter, Bonnie Gilcrease and husband, Jerry of Roswell, NM; granddaughter, Sherry Lynn Likes of St Joseph, MI; grandson, Michael Likes of Seattle, WA; granddaughter, Tamara Farmer and husband, Greg of Columbia, MD; grandson, Michael Smith and wife, Mary of Raeford, NC; grandson, Jerry F. Gilcrease and wife, Melissa of Roswell, NM; granddaughter, Donna Driver of Roswell, NM; great-grandson, Tyler Farmer of Columbia, MD; great-granddaughter, Madison Smith of Raeford, NC; great-granddaughter, Megan Skipper of Albuquerque, NM; great-grandson, Yancey Kendall of Roswell, NM; and great-grandson, Cameron Huebner of Roswell, NM. A memorial service honoring the life of Mae will be on Friday, April 29, 2016, 6:00 PM at Grace Community Church. Pastor Rick Hale will officiate her service. The family requests that in place of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
