Maria Ofelia Gonzalez Chavez, 78, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2022 in Roswell, New Mexico. Services: The service will begin at 9 AM on Monday, July 18, 2022, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home, 2608 S Main, Roswell, NM 88203 with Pastor Paniagua of Comunidad Cristiana Apostolica de Jesuscristo Church. The Rosary will follow, beginning at approximately 9:30 AM. There will be a short viewing opportunity prior to the Catholic Funeral Service, beginning at approximately 10 AM. Burial will take place at South Park Cemetery immediately following the Catholic Funeral Service. The family would like to invite family and friends to join at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 3201 S Sunset, Roswell, NM 88203, for lunch following the burial. On, April 2, 1944, Ofelia was born to Ramon Gonzalez and Isabel Gonzalez in Chihuahua, Chihuahua. Her family relocated to Roswell, New Mexico where she grew up and attended school and graduated from Roswell High School. She married Joaquin (Jake) Chavez on June 6, 1969, in Roswell, NM. Ofelia furthered her education and became a nurse. She worked as a nurse for majority of her adult life. She worked in Fort Stanton, NM and then transferred to the State of New Mexico, Rehabilitation Center in Roswell, where she retired. Ofelia loved being a nurse and caring for people, and after retirement, she returned to work at the Ruidoso Care Center. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping, crocheting, sewing, cooking, playing tetris and Miss PacMan and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Survivors: Those left to eternally treasure and cherish memories of Ofelia are her spouse, Jake Chavez, children, Ruben Chavez and partner (Dora Gallegos), Michael Chavez (Micha Chavez), grandchildren Rachal Arellano (John Lee), Matthew Peacock, Andrew Chavez, Kendra Chavez and Christian Chavez, great grand-children, Jay Peacock and Cruz Peacock, Kerra Dominguez, Aiden Lee, Jordan Lee, and Koada Chavez as well as siblings, Mary Becerra, Raquel Hiltibidal, Ramon Gonzalez, Jr. (Alicia Gonzalez) and Jaime Gonzalez (Rebecca Gonzalez). Ofelia is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon Gonzalez and Isabel Gonzalez. Honorary Pallbearers: Brian Gonzalez, Juan Acosta, Richard Griego, Colby Standefer Pallbearers: Christian Chavez, Roberto Avinia, Ricky Avinia, David Avinia, Andrew Chavez, Jeff Gonzalez, Gabriel Gonzalez and Sergio Gonzalez.
