Alvaro “Varo” Estrada Medrano July 15, 1957 - April 6, 2026 Alvaro “Varo” Estrada Medrano, 68, was welcomed into heaven on April 6, 2026, in Las Cruces, NM. A Rosary will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral home on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 6pm. On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Mass will be held at St. Catherine Church in Hagerman at 10am, and burial will follow at Hagerman Cemetery. On July 15, 1957, Varo was born to Ricardo and Gloria Medrano in Artesia, NM. Varo was a devoted husband, father, brother, tio, grandpa, and friend who brought love, strength, and warmth to everyone fortunate enough to know him. Varo was the heart of his family, always offering guidance, support, and unconditional love. Varo had a passion for fishing, hunting, wood work, carpentry, yard work, and found joy in spending cherished time with his granddaughter Iyla. He truly was a jack of all trades. On every holiday Varo looked forward to making ribs, brisket, or asado for his family. His presence could light up any room, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he encountered. Varo was a long time employee of the Hagerman Municipal Schools - maintenance. He also drove busses for Hamill Transportation, he truly loved all of his bus kids. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in his work. Whether providing for his family or helping others, he approached everything he did with determination and integrity. His strong work ethic was an inspiration to those around him and a reflection of the deep love he had for his family. Varo lives on in the heart of his beloved wife, Noelia Medrano; his daughters, Ashley Medrano (Jerome Torrez) and Clarissa Medrano (Guadalupe Ortiz); granddaughter, Iyla Torrez; best friend, Gary Barbe; brother, Oscar Sr. Medrano; and numerous nieces, nephews, brother/sister in laws, cousins, and friends. Varo was proceeded in death by his parents, Ricardo and Gloria Medrano; father in law, Armin Grado; beloved son, Jason Medrano; brothers, Richard Medrano and wife Beatrice Medrano, Cecil Medrano, and Armando Medrano; niece, Ruby Gonzalez. PALLBEARERS: Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Guadalupe Ortiz, Oscar Jr Medrano, Paul Rincon, Rick Medrano, Erik Ruiz, Dylan Franco, Daniel Suarez, and Fabian Romero. HONORARY PALLBEARERS: Those honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are his wife, daughters, brother, granddaughter, best friend, Wyome Escandon and Leandra Tarango. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing he is at peace and reunited with loved ones who have gone before. The love he gave us will carry on forever. Varo’s tribute was written in his honor by his family. We love you.
