Graveside services for Benita Martinez will be held 11 am Monday, September 10, 2012 at South Park Cemetery. Father Juan Antonio Gutierrez O.F.M. of St. John’s Catholic Church will officiate the memorial. Benita was born May 7, 1929 to Alfred Martinez and Gabriella Delgado Martinez Cornell in Artesia, NM. Benita Martinez, 83, of Roswell passed away Friday, August 31, 2012. In 1971 she attended nursing school and received her degree. She worked with various home healthcare providers for 23 yrs. At the age of 72 she retired and helped anyone she could. She was a loving, compassionate, hardworking woman who had many friends. She loved to dance and play bingo, and also loved family gatherings. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. The family would like to especially thank granddaughter Patricia Snyder and family for taking care of grandma in the last days she was here with us. Those left to cherish Benita’s memory are her daughter Estella Lucero and husband Benny Lucero, grandchildren; Terry Richardson and wife Michelle, Michelle Kasten and husband Albert, David Miller and wife Mandy, Jessica Eldridge and husband Willie, Jessie Miller and wife Heidi, Toni Sedillo and wife Connie, Tina Sedillo, Alonzo Madrid and wife Melissa, and Ernesto Sedillo, Patricia Snyder and husband Robert, DA McClain and wife Monique all of Roswell. Also niece Fausta Fuentez of Tucson, AZ, niece Maria Sanchez of Watsonville, CA, nephew Rome Sanchez of Salinas, CA, nephew Marceline Sanchez of Tucson, AZ, niece Mary Alvarez of Salinas, CA, nephew David Sanchez of Watsonville, CA, niece Patricia Vasquez of Watsonville, CA, niece Beatrice Gonzales of Freedom, CA, and nephew Gilbert Garcia. Benita was blessed as well with 35 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her. Benita was preceded in death by her mother, Gabriella Cornell and her stepfather Ernesto Cornell. Also preceding her in death was her father Alfred Martinez, sister Dominga Penada, sister Vicenta Martinez Sanchez, daughter Donicia Benita Dominquez, daughter Maria Bartlett, one granddaughter Marianne McClain and one grandson Auturo Dutchover, Jr. All of Benita’s grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
