Billy Prince

Billy "Bill" D. Prince was born on July 7, 1944 in Roswell, New Mexico, to Johnny and E. Ruth Prince. He married Cynthia Pendergrass on October 18, 1974. They had one son, Jeffrey L. Prince. Bill passed away on January 7, 2012 in Roswell. Bill is survived by his wife, Cindy; his son, Jeff and wife, Keisha; his grandson, Colby Z. Prince; and, granddaughter, Aubrey L. Prince. He is also survived by his brothers, Bobby Sparks (Betty) of Sacramento, CA; Jimmy Prince (Phyllis) of Hollis, OK; and sister, Yvonne Wilton (Wayne) of Mayfield, KY; brothers-in-law, Nolan Redding of Kentucky; Buddy Pendergrass (Debby) of Roswell, NM; sisters-in-law Modell Sparks of Guyman, OK; and, Jana Lamontine (Steve) of Roswell, NM; and his mother-in-law, Juanita Whitaker of Roswell. Bill is also survived by several nephews and nieces. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Ruth Prince; his brother, Ferrell Sparks; sister, Betty Redding; and nephew, Ross Lamontine. Bill retired from his position as an equipment operator for the NM Department of Transportation in 2007. He fulfilled his retirement dream of building a small ‘hunting shack' in the mountains. He and Cindy enjoyed many good times at the cabin. Sadly, Bill did not live long enough to complete his last project at the cabin- a deck upon which he and his friend, Ken, could sit on and rock in their rocking chairs. When Bill wasn't in the mountains, he spent time with his grandchildren, Colby and Aubrey, going to the park and helping with their latest project, raising chicks. Bill served his country in the US Army from 1970-1972. He received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Achievement in ground operation against hostile forces. The family would like to express special thanks to Doctors Hamid and Amna Feroze; Sara and the ladies from Covenant in Roswell; Dr. Mangold and the team of doctors from Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, TX; and, to all of the special care nurses who took such good care of Bill during his last illness. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Ross A. Lamontine Memorial Scholarship fund, Roswell High School, 500 W. Hobbs Street, Roswell, NM 88203 or to the charity of their choice. Services will be held at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. followed by military services at South Park Cemetery. Services will be officiated by ministers Jack Ferguson and Matt Brooks. Pallbearers are nephews Terry Sparks, Randy Prince, Mike Prince, Tim Prince and friends Cruz Zavala and Robert Scribner. Honorary Pallbearers are Ken Hough, Colby Prince, Aubrey Prince, Lee Lamontine, and Ben Pendergrass.
