Cecilia Chavez "Nana" Garcia 97 Our Nana has gotten her wings and gone on to heaven on June 20th 2025. She was a devoted servant to our Lord Jesus Christ and to her family, her shoes will never be filled, the matriarch of our family, the example of excellence she set for us to live as Christians will live on for many generations to come. A celebration of life will be held for our Nana at Church On The Move 901 W. Brasher Rd. Roswell, N.M. July 8th at 1:00 pm with reception to follow at the COTM 180 Building. Cecilia Chavez Garcia was born on March the 22nd 1928 to Willie and Cornelia Chavez in Capitan New Mexico. Cecilia was the oldest of her six siblings. She loved living in Capitan and spent a lot of time with her grandmother. She had fond memories of spending time with her grandmother on their family ranch Los Ranchos De Los Padilla's. She still missed and spoke of her grandma even into her 90s. Cecilia and her family moved to Dexter New Mexico when she was in high school and her and her family later moved to Roswell. Cecilia had many jobs from picking cotton on the farms in Dexter to working as a cashier for Creasey's Department store, all while raising her family. Cecilia raised five children daughter Carmen Licon Vigil, son Daniel Licon, daughter Mary Licon, son Larry Sanchez, son Gary Sanchez. Cecilia also raised two granddaughters Melanie and Angela Licon. Nana became her name after she started having grandchildren and she was everyone's Nana. Friends of her kids, distant relatives and in-laws, she was their Nana. Nana always made every holiday special; she would decorate the house for every occasion. She had gifts for all her children and grandchildren every Christmas. She made Thanksgiving dinner every year and it became our family's favorite holiday. She would mail birthday cards to all her children and grandchildren every year. Nana was never sick and never took a day off, she was always dressed up and looked her best. She was like a superhero, she cooked, cleaned, changed diapers and nursed us back to health. She kept up with all the comings and goings of our family. She was a prayer warrior, constantly praying for her family and friends. You could walk in her home at any given time and find her praying or reading. She had a lampstand where she read her Bible every morning until she lost her sight. She prayed over every meal, even as she grew ill in the last days of her life. Nana was the one true constant, steadfast, reliable and loving figure in our family. She had the same phone number for over 50 years and maintained our family home, so no one went without a meal or place to stay. Nana was our home, where she was all her children followed. Cecilia gave her life to Jesus Christ and never looked back, she served at Church On The Move for many years until she could no longer walk. She was a door greeter and loved her church family. She would put on her Sunday best and she couldn't wait to be in church. Our Nana was the most loving, gentle, kind person you could meet, but if you were out of line, she would let you know it. She would minister to us and try to correct us, out of love. She led many of her friends and family to Jesus and if you asked anyone in her family, they would say Nana taught us about Jesus and shared the gospel with us. She always said, "You keep your word no matter what, if you say you are going to do something you do it." Nana went through some very tragic events, losing three children, a granddaughter, grandson and a great grandson but regardless of the hardship or grief she experienced, she loved and served God. She never wavered in the faith she had in God. Cecilia lived a long, blessed life and her legacy wilt live on through her family for many generations to come. Cecilia was part of a family with 5 living generations, she had five Children, 15 Grandchildren, 24 Greatgrandchildren and 13 Great-great-grandchildren. Our family will never quite be the same without her, she will be missed terribly and never forgotten. Our Nana was truly one of a kind, an extremely strong woman who loved God and her family. As she would say "It is God's will and when God says it is ourtime to go, it is our time to go. Don't cry for me, I am with Jesus in heaven now, I only leave you for a little while, for I am waiting for you in the sky!" We would like to thank Nana's special caregivers from Ambercare Margarita Reyes, Amber Patton, Chelsie Bates and Alejandra Marquez. Nana's family doctor Megan Brandt. Loved family friend Veronica Young and son Larry Sanchez for the special care and love you showed our Nana. You all took such good care of her and we thank you. We thank Pastor Brett Shangraw and Pastor Tim Aguilar for taking time to come to our home and pray with us during this difficult time. We thank Church On The Move for the care and support they have given our family for so many years. May God bless all of you! Proceeding Cecilia in death are; her daughter Carmen Licon Vigil, son-in-law Bobby Vigil, son Daniel Licon, son Gary Sanchez, grandson Danny Ray Licon, granddaughter Angela Licon Gonzales, Greatgrandson Jeremiah Licon, parents Willie and Cornelia Chavez, maternal grandparents Pablo and Gregoria Padilla Chavez, brother Willie Chavez Jr., brother Leo Chavez, brother Jake Chavez, brother Johhny Chavez, sister Viola Kalinec and baby sister Chavez. Cecilia is survived by daughter Mary Licon, son Larry Sanchez (Josie Serna), daughter Sandra Licon, 15 grandchildren, 24 Great-Grand-Children, 13 Great-Great-Grandchildren and countless nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
