Charles Dean Otero

Charles “Charlie” Dean Otero, 64, sadly and suddenly passed away on November 2, 2016, in Albuquerque, NM. Charlie was born on September 21, 1952, in Ruidoso, NM, to Miguel M. Otero and Barbara Garcia Otero. At the age of 21, Charlie proudly received his GED from New Mexico State Board of Education on September 17, 1973. He enrolled at Eastern New Mexico University in Roswell, NM, studying to become a welder. A year later, on July 226, 1974, Charlie received his completion certification in welding. During a period of 2 years, 2 months, and 19 days, Charlie was enlisted in the United States Army. He was on active duty for 1 year, 8 months, and 20 days, and was stationed in Germany. Charlie was honored to be awarded a National Defense Service Medal for Expert (Rifle M-16) Sharpshooter (Rifle M-14). On January 31, 1973, our beloved Charles Otero received his Honorable Discharge. Spending time with loved ones was Charlies greatest enjoyment. His brothers, Mike, Cruz, John and Rick, and his best friends, Faustino Ortiz and Dickie Tegeda, were among his favorites to share fun times with. His children, Barbie and William Otero and his grandkids, Manuel (Mojado), Baby Carlos, Elijah, Nevaeh and Isaiah were by far his favorite pastime. Charlie also loved to take long cruises around town or drive to Capitan or Ruidoso and enjoy the trip. Those left to cherish Charlie’s memory are Cynthia Lucero, the mother of his children; daughter, Barbara “Barbie” Marie Otero; son, William Anthony Otero; grandchildren: Carlos Vicente Montez, Elijah Ray Montez, Manuel Arcelio Archuleta, Nevaeh Ysella Otero, and Isaiah Nathaniel Otero; brothers: Miguel Otero, John Otero Sr. and wife Joann, Richard Otero; sister-in-law Irene Otero. Surviving Charlie also is a very special uncle, Tony Garcia. Many nieces and nephews are among those left to cherish Charlie’s memory. Charlie had one very good friend, Chico, his dog, who remains with us. Preceding Charlie in death were his parents, Miguel and Barbara Otero, and one brother Cruz. Visitation will be Friday, November 11, 2016, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home & Crematory from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A graveside service will be on Saturday, November 12, 2016, 10:00 AM at the Capitan Cemetery in Capitan, NM. Chosen to be Pallbearers are his grandchildren and best friends, Manuel Archuleta, Carlos Montez Jr., Elijah Montez, Nevaeh Otero, Faustino Ortiz and Dickie Tegeda. Charlie’s Honorary Pallbearers are: William Otero, Adrian Otero, Eric Otero, Miguel Otero, Johnny Otero Sr., Johnny Otero Jr., and Charles Noriega. The family would like to thank Lovelace Hospital, especially Anna Marie, in Albuquerque, NM. Gentiva Hospice blessed us by taking very good care of our loved one.
