David Allen Starrett

We are saddened to announce that David Allan Starrett, 62, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, July 15th, 2023 in Roswell, NM. On August 4th, 1960, David was born to Lea Elda and Richard Starrett in Roswell, NM. He graduated from Goddard High School in 1978. He spent his entire career driving trucks. Over the years, he transported a wide range of cargo, all over the country; from beer and Schwan’s food, to milk and radioactive materials. David was a huge fan of anything sports related, he was never too good to follow any major competitive event, but he was a particularly die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs, Las Vegas Raiders, and USC Trojans. David was well known, and loved, for his sense of humor; never one to shy way from a “dad joke,” no matter how silly. His powers of comedy were so strong, that he often couldn’t help but laugh at his own jokes. David was preceded in death by his father Richard Starrett and mother Lea Elda (Pope) Starrett, as well as his brothers Thomas and Michael Starrett and stepsisters Kimberly Sullivan and Kathryn Pruetz. David is survived by his partner for 30 years, Joni Likens of Roswell, NM. His children; Troy and his wife Lily Starrett of Mill Creek, WA; Melissa and her husband Dan Duncan of Roswell, NM; and Jeremy Starrett and his wife Megan Roe of Hobbs, NM; as well as his stepson Jonathan and his wife Kristen Likens of San Antonio, TX. Grandchildren Ashlee, Peyton, Bruce, and Olivia Starrett; Addison Duncan; and Nikolas Starrett and Grayson Roe. He is also survived by his stepmother Patty Starrett of Manchester, TN, as well as his brother James Starrett of San Antonio, TX, sister Rachael Eberhardt of Manchester, TN, and stepsister Pamela Melin of Palmer, AK. The family of David Starrett wishes to extend sincere thanks to David’s aunt and uncle Rosy and Bill Starrett of Artesia, NM, as well as everybody who so graciously donated to the GoFundMe campaign to help cover David’s final expenses. You made this tragic event much less stressful for our family, and we will be forever grateful for that. A memorial event is being planned for the first weekend of September, to celebrate the life of the baddest mofo to ever walk the planet; details to follow.
