Dolores Granados

On Tuesday, February 17th, 2026 Dolores Granados decided she would celebrate the start of Lent in Heaven. Born on March 23, 1934, Dolores (more fondly known as Mom, Grandma Lola, or Lola) was born to Juan and Maria Aguilar in Artesia, NM. She was the oldest of 5, and the only daughter. While in school, a tragic accident left her mother unable to walk properly, so Dolores sacrificed her schooling at a very early age to help take care of the house and her brothers. At the age of 15, Dolores met the man who would sweep her off her feet in 2 weeks time while working in Colorado. She married Marcos Granados after those 2 weeks and began a lifetime of love, strength and loyalty. Together they had 8 children, 1 of whom passed as a baby. For many years Grandma Lola was seen chauffeuring kids to different events, walking grandsons to and from school, being present at school events, and always making sure everyone had a homecooked meal to eat when they walked in her house. Some of those meals included chili so hot you would be choking before ever entering through the door! Her motto was ‘hotter was better than it having no taste at all’. She enjoyed all of the things in life that ended with a houseful of children. Grandma Lola always made sure to give everyone in the family a blessing on their departure, she reminded us constantly to say a prayer before getting on the road, and knew just who to pray to when times were tough. She showed her thanks for many years of blessings by praying her rosary every single night. She spent many years telling her family bedtime stories, sometimes they were scary, sometimes they were fairy tales, and sometimes they were about her life or family members before her. The point was, she always made time for family. She taught her grandsons to speak Spanish, and they enjoyed their time watching Caso Cerrado late into the night with her. She gave every last bit of herself to ensuring her family was taken care of, and we will forever be grateful for the love she gave us all. Dolores is survived by her daughter Francisca and her son Ramon, grandchildren Maria Gutierrez (William) and children James and Brenda, Francisca Stites (Ben) and children Patrick and Seth, Michael Granado (Leajayne) and children Elisabeth, Anna, Stacie Raye and Amber, Heather Fajardo (Anthony) and children Jacen, Giovanni and Jaxon, Carlos Gutierrez, Amanda Molinar (George) and children Haylie, Silas, Abigail and Calisi, Jessica Granado and children DamynJoe and Kylee, Jose Marcos Granado and daughter Serenity, Krystal Granado (Joseph) and daughter Jazzy, Brenda Granado (Hector) and daughter Brynleigh, Fernando Granado (Sabrina) and daughter Josie, and Omar Granado (Karime). She is also survived by her nieces with whom she remained very close, Eugenia Levario and Ramona Valenzuela and their families, Maria and Joe Rodriguez along with their grandchildren Xavier and Aliyah who adopted Grandma Lola and offered so much love and support, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members . She is preceeded in death by her parents, her brothers Jesse, Manuel, Joe and Ray Aguilar, her Aunt Mary Baeza (Fidel) who was a cherished part of her life, her husband Marcos, her children Gabriel, Concepcion, Guadalupe, Silvia, Jose, and Savino and grandchildren Wilson and Brendin. The family would like to thank Ricky, John, Melba, Kim, Samuel, Leslie and the rest of the Interim Hospice staff for their kindness and compassion in her last months, and to the staff at Dr. Arnett’s office for their care over the course of Dolores’ life. The family would also like to recognize Francisca Granado, who went above and beyond the love and care of a daughter, who gave her mom a fighting chance at survival and happiness for the better part of 92 years. A memorial service will be held on Friday March 6th at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Parish in Dexter with internment to follow in Hagerman.
