In Loving Memory of Dorothy Rita Garcia Dorothy Rita Garcia passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. A Memorial Services will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home & Crematory on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Dorothy was born on June 2, 1958, to Jose and Delfina Garcia in Roswell, New Mexico. Born and raised in Roswell, she grew up alongside seven siblings whom she loved dearly. Dorothy was a fiercely dedicated woman of God, a loving mother, grandmother, and proud Gigi. She married and raised her children while continuing her education. She attended Eastern New Mexico University and Highlands University, where she earned two associate degrees and a bachelor's degree. Her education led her to a career she loved dearly at Counseling Associates. Dorothy had a true passion for being a social worker and helping others. It didn't matter who you were—if she could help you, she would. Dorothy found joy in reading her Bible and praying while drinking her morning coffee, watching church services and Bible studies daily, doing crafts—especially working with resin—enjoying Strawberry Matchas, shopping at DD's, and making her family happy in any way she could. She lived for her family but always made sure that God was the center of her life, and she was never afraid to share her faith. Dorothy left a lasting imprint on the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. Those left to eternally treasure and cherish Dorothy's memory are her daughter, Rebecca Aguilar, and her "favorite son-in-law," Michael; her son, Fabian Velasco, and Vanessa Rubio, all of Odessa, Texas; and her stepson, Patrick Velasco and his wife, Tina, of Roswell, New Mexico. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Aguilar Jr., Anissa Aguilar, Trey Aguilar, Mia Aguilar, and Ezra Velasco, all of Odessa, Texas; her siblings, Betty Tucker and her husband, Tom, of Odessa, Texas; Isidro Garcia of Moriarty, New Mexico; Armando Garcia of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Jerry Garcia and his wife, Alice, of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and her sister-in-law, Dina Garcia of Roswell, New Mexico. She is also lovingly remembered by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews throughout New Mexico, Colorado, Washington, Alabama, and Texas. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Garcia and Delfina Garcia; her former spouse, David Velasco; her granddaughter, Jasmine “Chachi” Martinez; her brothers, Jose “Henry” Garcia, Daniel “Danny” Garcia, and Nicholas “Nick” Garcia; her sisters-in-law, Grace Garcia, Vangie Garcia and Margie Garcia; and her nieces, Sonia Franco Garcia and Michelle Garcia. Those blessed to serve as honorary pallbearers are her beloved “sunshines,” Lana Rain, Ezra David, and Silver Rain Jr., along with her 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy's family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to her hospice nurse, Stormi Ramirez of Odessa, Texas. The compassion, empathy, and knowledge she shared will forever be cherished and remembered. Dorothy's love, unwavering faith, strength, and devotion to her family will live on forever in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
