Elvira (Vera) Wilson Sosa, our most beautiful, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, daughter, sister and friend went home on Friday, February 6, 2026 and passed peacefully in her sleep. Elvira’s funeral services were already held as per her request for a cremation, service, a private family burial with a celebration of life all performed by Anderson Bethany Funeral Home and St. Peters Catholic Church. Surviving Elvira are her 3 children: Juanita (Antonio) Mendoza, Dan Sosa, and Sandra Sosa (Edward) Chavez; her 9 grandchildren: Theresa, Ben Selina; Valerie, Melissa, Jovanna, Daniel K.; Anna Marie, Mario, Leanna; 21 great-grandchildren: Gemma, Nathaniel; Santino, Julian, Adrian, Xavier, Jasmine, Angelica Angelo, Ethan, Yselia, Valentino, Fernando ; Anaji, Antonio, Benjamin; Israel, Angel, Christopher, Adalita, Lucas; 16 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Delia Gonzalez of Texas, Elizer Lopez and Valentine Wilson of California, Ofelia Smith of Roswell, NM and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Preceding Elvira in death were her parents: Valentine Rodriguez Wilson and Angelita Hernandez Wilson; her husband, Adon Briseno Sosa; a son, Miguel; a daughter, Sylvia; brothers: Rodolfo, Joe and Teodoro; and her sisters: Elena Beck, Gloria Wilson and Virginia Deporto. Elvira will be greatly missed by family, friends, neighbors and acquaintances. Elvira’s faith in God was strong throughout her life, as she graduated from San Jose Catholic School in Carlsbad, NM. She loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. She worked since she was 16 years of age and was considered highly efficient and organized. She held several long-term management positions and retired in 1999. She married Adan Briseno Sosa on February 3, 1951, held homes in both Artesia, NM and in Roswell, NM where they settled in 1958. She loved and enjoyed her family and was a frequently requested confidant, cook and seamstress for them. She enjoyed gardening, animals, sewing, decorating, movies, dancing, reading, and traveling. She took care of both her parents until they passed. Having been the second oldest in her family, she helped her parents and siblings even after her marriage. She was well known for helping others that needed bilingual assistance with legalities and important paperwork. Elvira was passionate about politics. Elvira was well known to be very independent and encouraged other to also do their best. The family of Elvira would wish to thank Family, her Doctors, Casa Maria Medical Center Staff, Gentiva Hospice Staff, Anderson Bethany Staff and those who were kind enough to send acknowledgements at this time of sorrow.
