Eugenia "Jean" M. (Austin) Peterson

Jean was born August 19, 1928, in Wink, Texas, to Phyllis Katherine and Ellsworth Austin, who both preceded her in death. She went home to be with the Lord on May 26, 2019, at 90 years old. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 2019, 10:30 a.m., at Grace Community Church with Rick Hale officiating. Interment of her cremains will be at Grace Community Church Columbarium and Prayer Garden. Jean graduated from High School in Corona, NM. She worked for the Motor Vehicle Department in Roswell during the early 1950’s when the office was in the District Court basement. She later moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where she met and married the love of her life, Vernon "Pete" Peterson. While in Colorado Springs, CO, she worked at the Air Force Academy as secretary to the Chief Flight Surgeon. Later, she worked at the Fort Carsen Hospital as a Management Analyst in the Comptroller's office. She loved fly fishing and knew all the best streams to fish in Colorado. Upon her husband's retirement, they moved to Florence, AZ, where she became an avid golfer. She was proud of the 4 "holes in one" that she had, and that were witnessed and documented. Jean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Florence, AZ, where she had been active as a Clerk of Sessions, and an Elder, prior to her moving to T or C, NM. In July 2018, she moved to Roswell and made Grace Community Church her home church. She looked forward to every Sunday, to hear Rick's messages. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon "Pete" Peterson; three brothers: Richard Guinn, Charles Guinn, Phillip Austin; three sisters: Katherine Bradburn, Betty Satterfield, Myrtle "Pet" Davidson; and a stepsister, Mary Austin. She is survived by one daughter, Kaye Thompson of Roswell; three grandchildren: Jason Thompson and wife Silvia of San Antonio, TX, Greg Thompson and wife Ginger of San Antonio, TX, Lori (Thompson) Jacquez and husband Rob of Aztec, NM; six special great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy; special nieces and nephews: Carol Caroll and husband Bobby of Roswell, NM, Janet Gholson and husband Steve of Corona, NM, Jack Davidson and wife Sabra of Corona, NM, and numerous other nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to one of Jean’s cherished charities: The Salvation Army, The Baptist Children's Home, St Jude's Children's Hospital, The Shriner's Hospital for Children, or Cal Farley's Boys Ranch. Jean’s tribute was lovingly written in her honor.
