Gary Collins Newman

GARY COLLINS NEWMAN, 88, passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, in Roswell, New Mexico. Due to the current social restrictions, services will be held at a later date at the family plot in Crown Point, NY. On March 14, 1932, Gary was born to Alphonso (Doc) Collins Newman and Doris Hammond Newman in Crown Point, in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. He was in the first class to graduate in the newly constructed Newcomb Central School building in Newcomb, NY, in 1950. Gary served as a Marine and was awarded a Purple Heart in the Korean War. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Zimmerman, and together they raised seven children. They shared sixty-nine beautiful years together. Gary worked for National Lead Industries in Tahawus, NY; a Tungsten mine in Tempiute, NV; and the Anaconda Mine (uranium) in Grants, NM. He retired at the age of sixty-two from the New Mexico State Highway Department in Roswell, NM. In retirement, Gary enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends, photography, saving Airedales for Airedale Rescue, and volunteering at the Bureau of Land Management for twelve years. He will be deeply missed by many who loved him. SURVIVORS: Left to treasure memories of Gary are his loving wife, Ruth Newman; children: Pamela (Val) Semeiks of Sand Lake, NY, Vicki (David) Richards of Park City, UT, Marci Cobb of Roswell, NM, Jon (Carla) Newman of Whitwell, TN; son-in-law, William Morrisey II of Pottersville, NY; grandchildren: Janna Jones, Charly Wojtysiak, Thomas Williams, Leo Williams, Amanda Delfs, Jacquelyn Razdan, Christopher King, Evan Brady, Eric Brady, Caleb Newman, and Seth Newman; great-grandchildren: Bailey Williams, Thomas Williams Jr., and Regan Jones; brother, Gene (Laquatta) Newman; as well as his precious dog, Dexter. PRECEDED: Gary is Preceded in death by his children: Kurt Nicholas Newman, Doris Jean Newman, Dawn Arlene Morrisey; parents, Alphonso Collins Newman and Doris Hammond Newman; and his brothers: Guy Sherman Newman and Charles Lewis Newman (Infant). Gary’s family wishes to extend a sincere “Thank You” to Glen, Helen, Taticia, Kim, Stacy, Roberta and others, of Kindred Hospice for the excellent care and compassionate service that was given to Gary.
