Horace Reese

Horace Lee Reese, 65, of Roswell, New Mexico, passed away September 8, 2015, at UMC in Lubbock, Texas. He was born on November 28, 1949, in Maypearl, Texas to Rosie Williams Reese. Always willing to help others when he was needed, Horace was a well-spoken person, who loved to do things. He was a true Reese at heart. Horace loved to see his grandchildren, especially when they would play sports. Horace was known as “Hoss” by his friends. Receiving his G.E.D., he was a Hall of Famer as a member of a men’s softball team, the Red Raiders. Horace was a member of the Church of Christ, and the Eagles Lodge. He played on the Late Show. Horace wan an avid Dallas Cowboy’s fan, who enjoyed playing bingo and buying lottery tickets. Horace was a respectful person who worked for White’s Furniture Store, T & L with Bobby Ramirez, Southern Sky Equipment with Virgil Beagles and was also a painter. He was a basketball referee for the Boys and Girls Club and Yucca Center. Horace umpired men’s, women’s, and girls’ softball games at the Wool Bowl. Horace was awarded an outstanding umpire plaque in 2014. Preceding Horace in death were his mother, Rosie Reese; brother, Leonard Reese; nephews, Lee Webb and Jonathan Reese. Those left to carry on his legacy are his wife, Linda, of the family home; children: Angela Reese and companion, Jerry Stewart, Horace Reese Jr and his companion, Sheila Gonzales, Rodney Reese and companion, Vanessa Baeza, Shanta Richardson, Merlesha Lindsey Reese, and Anthony Bouldin; and fourteen grandchildren. Also surviving Horace are brothers: Ernest Reese of Roswell, NM, James Willie Reese and wife Mary of Copperas, TX, Lawrence Reese and wife Gloria of Killeen, TX, Henry Reese, Charlie Reese and wife Ruth, and Kenneth Reese all of Roswell, NM; sisters: Vera Allen of Roswell, NM, Jo Ann Wall of Pensacola, FL, Sammie Jo Reese, and Patsi Brock both of Fort Worth, TX. Additional survivors include numerous family and friends who will miss him dearly. A special thanks to Pastor Troy and Mrs. Julie Smothermon and Pastor Savino (Church on the Move), UMC hospital in Lubbock, Molina Healthcare, University of NM Cancer Center in Albuquerque, Dr. Elizabeth McGuire, Albertsons Market, First Baptist Church, Dr. Carrie Flury, all bingo halls in Roswell and the City of Roswell Parks Department. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, and Wednesday, September 16, 2015, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 2015, 11:00 AM, at First Baptist Church, 500 N. Pennsylvania. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. A reception will follow at Church on the Move in the One Eighty Building at 500 W. Brasher Rd. Family and friends are invited. Pallbearers will be Marvin Reese, Edward Island, Larry Medina, Danny Reese, Jamie Jackson, Larry Williams, James Webb Jr and Ralph Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Lee Jackson Sr, Cleveland Robinson, Darnell Boyce, Robert Dear Jackson, and Luz Juarez. The Gift God Gave Me Was You I will never say goodbye to you my Father because I know this is not the end for us to see each other. You will only be going to a place where there's no pain nor suffering. I am happy for you, for you will be with God. For now we need to go in separate ways. I remember how your arms held me and gave me strength. You were always there to listen, love, and defend me in everything. You were my very best friend. In my triumphs you were always proud. I'm very grateful and proud to call you my dad. Here deep inside my heart you'll always be. I would give up everything I have just to hug you one more time. I remember the last time I held your hand and how you looked at me in the eyes. If only I could turn back the time I would have never let you go. I felt the world stop and my heart stop beating when they told me you were gone....... How I wish I was only dreaming. Just like the rain; tears fell down from my eyes, I couldn't speak for awhile. Thank you Dad.... For always understanding, listening, caring, and loving me your whole life. The greatest gift God gave me was YOU........ my Dad... It's difficult to let you go but I must... I must return the gift God gave me...
