James "Buck" Mann

Memorial services for James Loyd “Buck” Mann, 66, of Roswell will be held at 10am, Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Pearless Cemetery in Pearless, Tx, with Brother Neal Cochran officiating. James passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at his home. James was born November 17, 1943 to Allen L. Mann and Maurine Wayland Ball in Muleshoe, Tx. He was a Race Horse owner and trainer. James enjoyed going fishing and to auctions, buying cars and fixing them up was one of his favorite pastimes. He loved his family and spoiled his grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. James is survived by two sons; Johnny P. Mann and his wife Nicole of Seminole, Tx, Dickey J. Mann and his wife Teena of Lake Arthur, one daughter; Susie M. Carter and her husband Gary of Roswell, five brothers; Jimmy Bennett of Amarillo, Jesse Mann of Calamazoo, Michigan, Harvey Martin of Weatherford, Tx, Clyde Lee of Sulphur Springs, Tx, Monte Lee of Santa Fe, NM, four sisters; Roxie Steward of Roswell, Joyce Tankersly of Monterrey, CA, Peggy Jackson of Roswell, and Teresa Wayland of Sulphur Springs, Tx, nine grandchildren; Jessica Terry of Minessota, Catalina Salas of Roswell, Mylindarae Carter of Roswell, Traci Mann of Artesia, Chey Ferguson of Lake Arthur, Thomas Mann of Lake Arthur, Johnney J. Mann of Tucson, Skyler Mann of Seminole, Tx, and Charles Mann of Tucson, and six great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to gather at 507 E. 3rd St. in Roswell, from 5-7 pm on Monday, April 5. 2010. He is preceded in death by his parents, Allen L. Mann and Maurine Wayland Ball and one brother, Alton Martin. What Is A Thoroughbred? It is a horse surrounded by excitement, gambling, glory and pain. It is a man’s dream that can lead to disappointment or fame. It is a beautiful animal that can turn a man’s money to financial gain. But all the vets, prevention and care can’t stop it from pulling up lame. The thoroughbred can involve so much time and so many years. It can cost a man years of heartaches and so many tears. The horse is a vision, an addiction, a hope and part of a game. The public will bet a fortune on it because of its name. Many lives revolve around the animal, all for different reasons. All their work, time and thoughts go throughout all seasons. As he’s coming down the home stretch, hearts are beating along with his own. The hoofs are pounding and the muscles are working, but the winner is still unknown. The horses hit the finish line and the emotions are flying. The race is now over with the results of the trying. Only man now feels happiness, sadness, celebration or grief.
