JUANITA MARTINEZ BURNETT Sunrise: February 27, 1957 – Sunset: December 3, 2019 Juanita was the first of seven children born to Eliseo B. Martinez, Sr. and Otilia (Tillie) S. Romero on Feb 27, 1957, in Eagle Lake, TX. A Memorial Service for Juanita will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at 1:00 PM. She was the best big sister to four brothers: Eliseo Martinez Jr (Linda) of Chula Vista CA, Pete, LeRoy (Yvette), and Robert Martinez of Roswell, NM; and two sisters: Frances Martinez-Herrera and Cynthia Martinez of Roswell, NM, who survives her. Juanita is also survived by her husband, Michael Burnett, whom she married in July of 2005; daughters: Monica Romero of Roswell NM, Michelle Romero of San Antonio, TX, whom she made sure they had the best of everything; grandchildren, whom she loved dearly: Chris K Carrasco, Jr, Anyssa and Elisa Vegara, Erik Rubio, Mia, Robert and Annalicia Romero, who would call her ‘Ma.’ There are numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces, some who called her ‘Tia Nita.’ Preceding Juanita in death are her nephew, Juan Carlos ‘Coolyman’ Martinez, and grandson, Joseph Elias Romero. Juanita’s past time here in Roswell was bowling, Tupperware, and Home Interior, to name a few. Before she got ill, she loved reading. Juanita moved to Texas City to be close to Mom and they became the best of friends. She always enjoyed taking her shopping. They lived blocks away from each other, so supper was always at one or the other home. Juanita never missed a Sunday without calling Dad here in Roswell. If she didn’t call, he knew she wasn’t feeling well. He would say, “Juanita hasn’t called, something is wrong.” She loved and cared for all the family so much. Juanita liked for Michael, her husband, to drive her to the Dikes (only Texas kinfolk will relate to the Dikes), a fishing pier that connects in with Galveston Bay. Juanita loved the water atmosphere and felt happy when she would feed the seagulls all-natural popcorn. She has always enjoyed music especially with family around, dancing, which was always a must. When you heard that high pitch laugh, you knew Juanita was nearby. Her brother Jr, of California, is saddened he can’t be here with us today, but he holds onto the last memories he had with her when he was able to spend a few months with Juanita in Texas to help with her care. She really enjoyed having him there. Jr’s favorite memory was when he would help her put up her Christmas tree. All that knew Juanita saw she was an amazing decorator. So you can only imagine how happy she was when Jr. did that for her. Juanita would help him the best she could, a good memory for him indeed. They watched TV together, every time she would hear Jr. laugh would laugh as well, not even knowing what Juanita was laughing about at times. And of course, other family members took part in her care at home, and the hospital as best as they could. Juanita is truly loved and will be missed by all. Even in Juanita’s time of fighting her battle of being sick, she would still laugh and try to be in good spirits. She fought so hard to get better, but God knew she was suffering, and it was getting too much other for her to bear. He swooped Juanita up into His ever-loving arms, where she is no longer suffering. We will deeply miss her and we will keep beautiful memories of Juanita, for she had such a beautiful heart to all who knew her.
