Kenneth Guthrie

Kenneth Leon Guthrie, age 78, of Roswell passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center of natural causes. Kenneth was born on February 21, 1933 in Ware, TX to Marion Carroll (M.C.) and Geneva Lucille Guthrie. He had three siblings: Wayne, M.C., and Raymond. Kenneth served in the Navy and fought in the Korean War on several ships including; the U.S.S Amphion, AR-13, the U.S.S. Wiltsie, DD-716, and the battleship New Jersey, BB-62. He was a certified Auctioneer through the Dale Carnegie School, as well as a master welder, pipefitter and steel worker. He resided in Roswell and spent many years in Cloudcroft. Kenneth loved life and wasn’t quite sure he had flirted with all the pretty girls on the planet, so he fought hard until the end, and gave one more wink in the hours before his passing. He was a handsome character, charming, fun and loved a good joke. He loved cowboy novels and movies and could never pass up a good chick flick. He had many cherished friends throughout his life, and will be greatly missed. Kenneth is survived by his three brothers, Wayne, ( Lana) , M.C., and Raymond (Jackie); his two sons, Rickie and Tyler; his three daughters, Renee’ Limb, Tammy Rodgers (Mitch), and Jacque Clark (Randy); his five grandchildren, Melissa (Jay), Zane, Jack, Matt (Amanda), and Grace; his two great granddaughters, Audrey and Addie; and honorary granddaughter, Emily. He is preceded in death by his parents, M.C. and Geneva Guthrie. Please join us for a celebration of his life on Saturday, October 22 at 10am at South Park Cemetery, 3101 S. Main St., Roswell, NM for a graveside service with Sean Lee officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Roswell Veteran Honor Guard and the New Mexico National Guard. A dinner reception will follow the graveside service at the Children’s Building of Grace Community Church, 935 W. Mescalero, Roswell, NM.
