Nancy Ann Boyer

Nancy Ann Boyer passed away at home surrounded by her family on April 3rd, 2025. Nancy was born March 11th, 1965, in Roswell, NM. She is preceded in death by her adoring grandparents, Papa and Honey Boyer, her father and stepmother, Bud and Billie Boyer, brother-in-law Cary Walton, and her beloved son, Matthew Ortega. She leaves behind her daughters, Christina Ortega and April Brittain, five grandchildren, Ian Smith, Hayden Smith, Trina Ortega, Zachariah Vaughn, and Josue Torres, her big sister Teresa Walton and her baby brother, Lee Boyer. To care for her daughters in her absence, she leaves this daunting task to her sons-in-law, Alex Cordova and Philip Baca. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Nancy’s Pettigrew and Associates family are also left to cherish her memory and miss her laughter. Nancy was taken from this world way too early. She bravely and courageously fought stage 4 lung cancer that metastasized to her brain. She fought with her army behind her, cheering her on. When asked what her greatest accomplishments were, she would proudly tell you her children, grandchildren, and career were what she took the most pride in. She also boasted that her grandchildren were her greatest blessings in life. She often said, “If I would have known they’d be this much fun, I’d have had them first!” She chased, teased, tickled, and held them all the time. She was the best and the most hands-on Mamaw that ever Mamawed! Momma gave her life to her children. She worked endless summers and long winter days. She made it seem so easy to be a single mother of three children, but looking back, we are in awe of her hard work and endless sacrifices. She started working in construction almost as a joke. Stuck in construction traffic one day, she commented that she would love to be paid for leaning on a shovel in the middle of Main Street blocking traffic. And damn it if she didn’t do it! And she owned it! Nancy worked for 30 years in the field of construction. For the last 13 years, she “worked” for Pettigrew and Associates in Hobbs, NM, as a Senior Engineering Technician. She loved playing in the dirt and was so happy that she was paid to do it! Work was never work for her, especially during her tenure with Pettigrew and Associates. She enjoyed every aspect of her job and took immense pride in her craft. Nancy was honored to be a Senior Lab Technician and holds many engineering certificates in the state of New Mexico. She helped to expand and extend highways all over New Mexico and Texas, fixed city and state roads and tested many building sites and building materials. Nancy helped to build the Nor Lea Hospital in Lovington, NM. She would ultimately receive brain radiation at Nor Lea and was so excited to tell the radiation technicians all about the concrete that surrounds their workstations. The materials buried deep in the walls that keep them safe. Nancy’s life will be celebrated on May 2nd at The Serenity Club at 1000 E. Bland at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, her daughters ask that donations be made in Nancy’s honor to the American Cancer Society, The Hope Lodge of Lubbock, TX, phone number (806) 745-0700. The Lubbock Hope Lodge staff and volunteers helped to house Nancy and her daughters through her treatments and were an absolute delight. Nancy’s daughters and family wish to extend the utmost deepest gratitude to her work family. You all loved and cared for her just as much as we did. Your generosity and love will never be forgotten.
