Paul Baxter

Paul Harold Baxter passed away Nov. 23, 2012 at age 48, after a long illness. He will be dearly missed. Paul was a mechanical genius at a young age. When he was eight he got a clock radio for Christmas. He was listening to the music (Johnny Cash) on his new radio when suddenly there was a silence. We went to his room to find the radio taken apart on his bed and a screwdriver in his hand. He wanted to know how it worked. This followed him through life of electronics and mechanics. He was diesel mechanic by trade but was master of all trades. He could drive our dad’s Kenworth when he was ten. Mom always told dad to be careful cause someday he might drive off without you. He had a three wheeler. When Paul was ten he was a skilled rider. He would go to the neighbors’ house three doors down and show them what he could do. This elderly man was always amazed and looked forward to it each night. Paul loved mechanics , he worked several jobs in his life. From working in a lumber yard, to the sawmill, Roswell Ready Mix, Custom Wrought Iron welding and Dearing Recycling, driving to El Paso. Paul was a very unselfish man. He is survived by his two sons, Michael Brown (Sarah) of Artesia; and Mark Baxter (Stephanie)of Roswell; his grandson, Michael Brown II; his stepdaughter, Kelsie Casey and her two sons, Niki and Alex; his father, Harold A. Baxter of Ivins, UT; his stepfather, Harold H. Jones of Roswell, NM; two brothers and three sisters, Alan Baxter of Roswell, NM and Kerry Baxter (Robyn)of Levan, UT; Shannon Quigley, Sherry Baxter (Abraham Gonzales) Lana Baxter (Boni Sena Jr. ) all of Roswell, NM; his nieces, Lacie (Jimmy); Autumn (Ken); Timarie (Tyson); Chelan and Juliette – who was special as he drove her to the hospital to be born she adored him; his nephews, Vance (Suzanne); Kevin (Michelle); Marty (Laurales); Traven (Maria); Tyred (Lorelei) and never to forget cousin, Gary Crawford, and Paul’s special dog, “Squeeky”. A big thank you to all his friends who helped him through life. A memorial service will be held at South Park Cemetery at 11 am on Saturday, December 1, 2012. Pastor Joe Diaz will be officiating. Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Jones, his wife, Barbara Brown, his brother, Randy Baxter, his grandparents, Vance and Edna Baxter, Harold Baxter and Marguerite Dye.
