Ray Ernest Luna

Memorial services will be held for Ray Ernest Luna, 47, of Roswell, at 11:00 am Monday, August 19, 2013 at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home Chapel. Ray was born July 14, 1966 in Roswell, NM to Robert Luna and Mercy Chavez Luna, he went to be with our Lord on August 13, 2013. Ray grew up in Roswell, he later moved to Albuquerque, NM with his sister, where he stayed for 13 years, he moved back to Roswell around 2006, when he met his soul mate, Marylou. They always did everything together, they were never apart and lived together until he passed. Ray was always a gifted artist, he loved tattooing, and he drew several beautiful murals for friends in Albuquerque and Roswell. Ray also left many tattoos on family and friends, he was always the life of the party and left many good memories. He didn’t mind letting people see the “real” Ray, who we all loved and will miss dearly. He had a heart of gold, and was very close to his family. At the age of seven, Ray won first prize in a state-wide art contest with his drawing of a kachina doll that remained in the governor’s office in Santa Fe, NM for a full year, he was so proud that he was on the front page of the newspaper. Ray and his only sister, Rentia, grew up close, and stayed close. He always watched over his little sister and continued to do the same with Rentia’s children; five boys and one girl, who all held their “tio Ray” close to their hearts. “We will miss you, tio Ray. Ray was always willing to give the shirt off his back to help, and always said, “family is everything”. Ray was a big 49er’s fan. He had one very special tio, “Tio Santos”, who watched over Ray and his little sister closely since they were both little kids, he also had a Best Bro, Abraham Gonzales and numerous other friends. Ray was truly a product of his mother, Mercy’s love, and great values, which she gave to her children from day one. Ray loved his mom more than words can say, he will be missed dearly. His mom would always reassure him that things would always “be okay”, one of these days, and Ray would always respond with his favorite saying, “sure pal”. Ray always said, he wanted everyone to remember him happy; don’t cry, be happy until we see you again, son, brother, dad, friend, partner. We love you so much, Ray. Those left to cherish his memory are his “babes”, Marylou Montoya, and her five children; his mother, Mercy Chavez; all of Roswell, NM; one sister, Rentia Luna, and brother-in-law, Duncan Duran of Albuquerque, NM; sons, Ray Robert Luna and Kelly White of Roswell, NM; Daniel Ray Luna of Porterville, California; daughter, Salina Luna and Heidi of San Antonio, TX; two grandchildren, Robert Andrew Luna of Roswell, NM and David Ray Luna of Albuquerque, NM; numerous tias and tios, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Luna and grandfather, Lorenzo Luna; grandfather, Fred Chavez; grandmother, Antonia Luna; grandmother, Isabel Chavez; uncles, Thomas Padilla, Ray Luna, Ernest Luna, Ireno Luna, Rudy Luna, and Eloy Chavez; cousins, Robert Luna, and Jude Chavez. Isaiah 41:10 Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not gaze about, for I am your God. I will fortify you. I will really help you. I will really keep fast hold of you with my right hand of righteousness. Following services the family will be receiving family and friends at 1104 W. Lusk.
