Richard Louis Knadle

A longtime resident of Roswell, New Mexico, Richard Louis Knadle, passed away at home on July 23, 2016. Born on September 28, 1942, in Roswell, Richard graduated from Roswell High School and then attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, receiving a business degree in marketing with a minor in art. After college, he served in the army reserves. When he finished active duty, he went to work as an assistant film editor, writer and graphic artist, for the CBS news affiliate KNX in Los Angeles. After seven years with CBS, Richard returned to his hometown to work at the family’s retail clothing store, Knadle’s, as Vice President in charge of Advertising and Marketing. When the store closed, he pursued his desire to teach art. In 1989, Richard enrolled in graduate school at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. There he received a certification to teach K-12 art in public schools. He began by teaching at the Indian Reservation at Laguna Pueblo near Grants, NM. Then he relocated to the art department at his alma mater, Roswell High School, from where he subsequently retired after 11 years of employment. During that time, he also taught art as an adjunct teacher at Eastern New Mexico University in Roswell. Richard was involved in many activities at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, where in his youth he was an acolyte, president of the Youth League and the choir. He was also active with the Roswell Fine Arts League where he displayed and sold many paintings, and the Roswell Museum and Art Center where he taught classes. He was known up until his retirement years never to say no to a community art project as anything art was his passion and love of his life. He was constantly working on painting projects both for adding to his personal collection and for creating works of art for friends and family that will forever be cherished. Richard is survived by his brothers: Larry and David Knadle; his sister, Carol Sue (Knadle) Glass; nephews: Brian, Greg and Steven Knadle, Jarrett Glass; and nieces: Amy (Knadle) Howell, DeAndra (Glass) Mulligan, and Julie Knadle. The family respectfully thanks his longtime neighbor and dear friend, Ron Duane Smith, Sr. for his endless support and assistance. Richard did not want to have a memorial service, so we honor his wishes. May his memory live on in those of us who loved him and his artistic talents.
