Ronnie Garcia

Ronnie Garcia was born on August 21, 1955, in Roswell, NM and went to his heavenly home on Monday, October 5, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Marylou Garcia whom he married on April 20, 1973, in Carlsbad, NM. We have lost a great man who touched many lives and who meant something very special to each one of us. We will never lose the memories that Ronnie Garcia placed in each of our hearts. He will be greatly missed and always remembered. Ronnie graduated from Goddard High School in 1973, where he excelled academically and in sports, particularly baseball and basketball. After graduating, he learned how to weld and perfected that skill for more than 30 years. His talents were not only recognized by his family and friends but also by National Amateur Associations. In 1996, Ronnie was inducted into the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) Hall of Fame along with the Roswell Raiders Softball team. In 2002, Ronnie was inducted into the United States Slow-Pitch Softball Association (USSSA) Hall of Fame, being recognized for his individual talents. In 2009, he was inducted into the USSSA Hall of Fame with the Roswell Raiders. During his many years of playing softball, Ronnie won 5 state championships with the Raiders, 5 State Championships with the Roswell St. John’s Softball team along with several other statewide championships. He was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Ronnie loved life and lived it to its fullest by enjoying many hobbies. He especially loved the outdoors and mastered his hunting and fishing skills. He had many God-given talents that included playing softball with the Roswell Raiders. Ronnie passed on some of his talents to his grandson Jacob, while coaching him in baseball at Eastside Little League. Preceding Ronnie in death were his father, Johnnie T. Garcia; mother, Erminia Licon-Garcia and twin brother, Johnny Garcia. Those left to carry on his legacy are his wife, Marylou Garcia; sons: RonJon Garcia and Ramon J. Garcia; grandson, Jacob Garcia; brother, Johnnie Garcia; half-brother, Milo Garcia; brothers-in-law: Faustino “Sonny” Silva Jr. & Ernesto Silva; Godchildren: Joshua Paul Trujillo and Rosie Silva; Jorge Talamentes Jr., who was like a son to him. Also surviving Ronnie are numerous other family members and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Hector Lujan, Sam “Clutch” Martinez, W.R. “Hawk” Gunnels, Gilbert Jr. “Zurdo” Lucero, Duane “D” Trujillo, Alonzo “Lonz” Acosta, Leroy Weimer, Gaylon “Boog” Young, Roger “Big Rog” Daniel, Warren “Jr.” Hunter, Johnny Alvidrez, Darryl “Doc” Johnson, Filomeno “Fil” Gonzalez, Bill Bartlet, Frank Romero and cousins Ray, Rudy & Roy Romero. A rosary will be recited on Saturday, October 10, 2015, 9:00 AM, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held immediately following the rosary. Burial will be at South Park Cemetery. Deacon Frank Pittman will officiate.
