Obituary for Rose May Lucero (Nena) Rose May Lucero (Nena), 76, of Roswell, NM, entered into eternal rest on January 19, 2025, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Born on May 7, 1948, to Benito P. Sanchez and Geronima Mata Sanchez, Nena was a beacon of love, faith, and joy to all who knew her. At the age of 15, she met the love of her life, Martin Lucero Jr., affectionately known as Jr. On October 9, 1965, Nena and Jr. were joined in Holy Matrimony and would go on to have three children: Tina Lee, Priscilla, and Martin III (Kitty). Although their time with Tina Lee was limited, Nena loved all of her children deeply. Nena dedicated many years working as a cafeteria cook for the Roswell Independent School District until she retired in 1990. Although she enjoyed her work, her heart belonged to the Lord, and her life was a testament to her unwavering faith. After being filled with the Holy Ghost in 1995, Nena was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ in 2006. She found immense joy in singing hymns, often losing herself in the beauty of worship. This passion led her to join the "Rejoice Choir" and support prison ministries, spreading the message of God’s love to those in need. At the time of her passing, she was a member of First Apostolic Assembly Living Hope Church. She embraced the simple pleasures of life, whether attending church services, playing Scrabble, going on walks (always keeping an eye out for nickels and dimes), or spending cherished time with her family. Her warmth, compassion, and humor lit up every room she entered. Nena was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend—the best anyone could hope to have. She had an extraordinary ability to see the best in others, regardless of their background or circumstances. Her love was selfless, wholehearted, and unconditional, leaving a legacy of kindness that will endure in the hearts of all who loved her. Her faith in God radiated from her, a beautiful light that guided her every step. Paired with her infectious sense of humor and her willingness to pray for anyone in need, Nena’s life was a reflection of God’s grace and love. Nena was preceded in death by her parents, Benito P. Sanchez and Geronima Mata Sanchez; her daughter, Tina Lee Lucero; her grandsons, Ricky and Benito Romero; and her siblings, Elizabeth "Lisa" Hernandez, Eloy Sanchez, Eliver Sanchez, Erlinda "Linda" Sedillo, Efraim Sanchez, Esmael Sanchez, and LeRoy Sanchez. She is survived by her loving husband, Martin Lucero Jr., of Roswell; her two children, Priscilla Romero (husband Ricky) of Albuquerque, NM, and Martin "Kitty" Lucero III of Roswell, NM; her grandchildren, Adriana Jaramillo (husband John) of Tucson, AZ, Alex Tarin (wife Revecca) of Riverside, CA, Analysa Romero of Albuquerque, NM, Ezekiel Lucero, and Emmanuel Lucero, Candi Ortega (husband Mark), Shannon Romero, Amber Romero (husband Andrew), Ariel Romero (husband Josh; and her great-grandchildren, Lucas Lara, Michael Hernandez, Jesse Tarin, James Tarin, Mark Ortega Jr, Jeremiah Ortega, Saul Hernandez, Emilio Hernandez, Viviana Hernandez, Trinity Sanchez, AJ Ortiz, Aubree Ortiz, Elijah Ortiz, Aryah Calles, Calista Torres, and Malakai Torres. She also leaves behind her sister, Elvira Lucero; her aunt, Nellie Reyes; her uncle, Lupe Reyes; many nieces and nephews; and many beloved coworkers from the Roswell Independent School District. The family has chosen the following individuals to serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers for Nena's service: Pallbearers: Martin Lucero III, Joseph Espinoza, Edward Sanchez, John Jaramillo, Sergio Cardenas, Marcello Jimenez. Honorary Pallbearers: Ricky Romero, Alex Tarin, Mark Lucero, Noah Cardenas. The family would like to thank all who have supported them with monetary donations, meals, and visitation during this difficult time. While she will be deeply missed, Nena’s memory will continue to inspire us to love deeply, give selflessly, and walk in faith every day. There will be a viewing held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Thursday January 30, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday January 31, 2025, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home at 1:00 pm with an interment to follow at South Park Cemetery.
