Shellie Kay Hinkle

It is with deep sorrow and an abundance of love that we mourn the loss of Shellie Kay Hinkle, who passed away at home in Roswell, New Mexico on Monday April 6, 2026, at the age of 65. Shellie was the cherished daughter of Jerry Don and Waneta Kay Martin born in Roswell, New Mexico on October 16, 1960. She spent her early years in Roswell where she cultivated lifelong friendships and began crocheting a life, interweaving kindness and compassion. She graduated from Goddard High School in 1978. Fueled by a passion for understanding the human psyche, she pursued higher education at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. Graduating in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, she began her lifelong devotion to helping others. Shellie dedicated much of her career to serving her community in Lea County as a social worker and probation officer, roles in which her profound empathy shone brightly. Her life’s work was a reflection of her belief in the goodness of people and desire to uplift those around her. Shellie was an avid reader, devouring books across a spectrum of genres and even writing her own novel at one time. She possessed an impressive collection of movies that ranged from The Quiet Man to To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. Her love for trivia was legendary among family and friends, making her a cherished partner during holiday games. Her wealth of "useless knowledge", as she lovingly called it, brought joy and laughter to every occasion. Shellie's heart was as vast as her beloved New Mexico skies. She was known for her kindness, nonjudgmental nature, and her ability to see the positive in every person and situation. Her heart of gold shone through in her tireless devotion to her family and friends, whom she supported with unconditional love and care. Shellie was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Don Martin; grandparents, Donald and Edith Martin, Albert and Amanda Schear; aunt Betty Martin; cousin Robert Martin; bonus daughter Amber Dawn Johnson and beloved grandson Nolan Bryce Collins. She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. Shellie's legacy continues through her children; Stacia and Will Weber, Ashton and Robert Collins, and Cierra Hinkle, who were the lights of her life. Her grandchildren Jerron, Rilee, Link and Avari, who brought her immense joy and she found great delight in the pure innocence of their laughter. She is also survived by her mother Waneta Martin; sister Janie Davies; nephews Kenneth and Justin Hartwich; niece Danielle Banda; uncle Charles Martin and cousin Scott Martin. As well as several bonus children including Kaylin Drew Hinkle, Ricky Hynes, Lachanda Bohannon, Jeromy Aragon and numerous others. All of whom held a special place in her heart. A celebration of Shellie's life will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 2609 S. Main Roswell, NM 88203 on April 25th, 2026 at 1:00 PM. Honorary Pallbearers are Debra Ward, Mike Pierce, Tommy Eppers, Scott Martin, Janie Hernandez and Adis Robertson. Shellie Kay Hinkle will forever be remembered for her boundless love, generous spirit, and unyielding dedication to those she cherished. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts she touched.
