Terry Ray Gallagher

Terry Ray Gallagher, 65, passed away on August 14, 2026 doing one of his favorite things, riding his bike. There will be a viewing at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Thursday August 20 from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM that afternoon. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 22 at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home at 10:00 with Pastor Shawn Kelly officiating. Interment to follow at McBride Veteran’s Cemetery. On May 15, 1961, Terry was born to Raymond Gallagher and Genieve Walker in Roswell, New Mexico, where he graduated. He enlisted in the United States Army shortly after. Terry was a very decorated person having served in both the Army and Navy. Terry has always had a love for country and a passion to serve (military or otherwise). Shortly after high school, Terry enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a Military Policeman and a dog handler. Terry had duty stations in Korea, Colorado, and Germany, to name a few. His daughter Alyssa was born in Germany. When Terry got out of the Army he continued his desire for public service and he carried with him the training and talent for working with K-9’s. He continued federal service with employment in US Customs, Federal Bureau of Prisons and later transitioned into civilian law enforcement with Chaves County Sheriff, Artesia Police Department, NM Department of Transportation. He retired from Eddy County Sheriff’s department in June of this year. Along the way Terry sought jobs and assignments that would provide better for his family by earning money out of the country working for military and contract companies doing police missions in Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. The time spent away from his family was certainly a sacrifice for all concerned and it definitely took a physical and psychological toll on Terry. Through all of the many places he traveled and served those around him, he never missed the opportunity to make a friend. As a police officer, you’d think he’d have more enemies, but even those caught in the legal system with him saw and felt his compassion. Because of this, the grief of his loss is now felt throughout the world. Terry is survived by: his daughter Alyssa Gallagher, son Derrick Gomez (Angie) and their Children Marissa Gomez (Robert), Jaylien Gomez, and Chael Gomez. Brother Trace Gallagher (Tina-Marie) and their children, Caleb Gallagher (Rachel) and their son Lincoln Gallagher, Joshua Gallagher (Madeline), and Noah Gallagher and Nancy Dawson. His sister-in-law Cathy Gallagher, his nephew Chad Gallagher (Misty), their children Taylor Sorensen (Paul) children Braxton and Emberlynn. His fiancé Mary Bangas (who he loved very dearly) her children Bryan Johnson and daughter Haley Garcia. Cousins Paul and Laura Patterson. Terry was preceded in death by his father Ray Gallagher and mother Jenny Dove; brothers: Mike Gallagher and Pat Gallagher; wife of twenty years Monica Gallagher. Granddaughter Tessa-Marie Anderson and tons of brothers he shared the battlefield with. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Derrick Gomez, Trace Gallagher, Chad Gallagher, Rick Shouse, Dave Bobst, Pete Quinones, Marc Fields, Omar Montero, Ricardo Huerta, Daniel Taschner, Jaylien Gomez, Chael Gomez, Caleb Gallagher, Joshua Gallagher, Noah Gallagher. Terry’s tribute was lovingly written by his family.
