Toribio Oropesa

It is with a heavy heart to announce that Toribio “Toby” Oropesa, 75, entered eternal rest with the Lord on Thursday, December 7, 2023, in Roswell, NM. Toby was surrounded by family in his home. There will be a viewing at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. A Rosary will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by mass service with Father Lalo. On April 27, 1948, Toby was born to Julian and Herminia Oropesa in Artesia, New Mexico. He then met and married the love of his life, Rosa Dominguez Oropesa, on April 20, 1965. Toby was a proud member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Cursillo Movement. Prior to retirement, Toby worked for the City of Roswell for many years. Toby was definitely a heaven-sent, one-of-a-kind man. He was the most loving, caring, hardworking family man. He enjoyed playing the accordion, keyboard, drawing, taking day trips with his wife to the mountains, and fixing any and everything he possibly could to keep busy. Toby’s pride and joy was his family; he was an inspiration to all. He was always looking out for others, encouraging others, lending a listening ear or his arms for a hug. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly. He was more than just a grandfather to them. He went over and beyond, and for that, they are all very thankful. He had a beautiful bond with each and every one of his family members and friends. There are an endless amount of unique characteristics Toby had. He truly had a heart of gold and will be missed immensely. He left so many wonderful memories for his family and friends to forever cherish and live by. Those left to treasure and cherish memories of Toby eternally are his loving wife, Rosa Dominguez Oropesa; their children: Patty Oropesa, Sonya Oropesa, and Kathy Oropesa. Grandchildren: Jesse Martinez, Yvonne Martinez, KaSandra and Eric Barraza, Kimberly Echavarria, John Aguilar Jr., Josiah Aguilar, Andrew Ortega, Twyla White, and Starla Ortega; 23 precious great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; Siblings: Raymond and Julia Oropesa, Juan and Corrine Oropesa, Enedina and Andres Cano, Maria and Noel, Carlos and Olivia, and Pancho Carlos; also, numerous nieces and nephews. Toby is preceded in death by his parents: Julian and Herminia Oropesa; Father and mother-in-law: David and Paula Dominguez; his brother, Cruz Oropesa; and Elizabeth Oropesa. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jesse Martinez, Eric Barraza, Josiah Aguilar, Xavier Martinez, Jerry Martinez, and Tyran White II. Honorary pallbearers will be John Aguilar Jr., Santana Martinez, and Jesse Martinez. Toby's family wishes to extend sincere thanks to all those who helped fulfill his wishes in his final days, as well as to St. John’s Catholic church. Toby’s tribute was written in his honor by his family. In tears, we saw you sinking, and watched you pass away. Our hearts were almost broken, We wanted you to stay. But when we saw you sleeping, So peaceful, free from pain, How could we wish you back with us To suffer that again, It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone, For part of us went with you, The day God took you home.
