Johnnie Urban

Johnnie M. Urban, 73, of Dexter, was surrounded by his loved ones in his home, when he was called home by our Lord on Monday, November 2, 2015. He was born on May 26, 1942, to Cecilia Montoya and Jimmy Urban, in Ruidoso, NM. Johnnie married Cecilia Fresquez, the love of his life, on June 1, 1963, in Dexter, NM. Together they stood side by side as they enjoyed life’s great joys and faced challenges that arose through 53 years of marriage. His inspiring presence will be greatly missed by many whose lives he touched. Johnnie retired from Vocational Teaching at the NM Rehabilitation Center in Roswell. Spending time with his family was Johnnie’s favorite pastime. He had various hobbies constructing and creating anything and everything ranging from woodworking to cooking. Johnnie’s heart of gold was as pure as his soul, as he was constantly helping others throughout his life. Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Urban and granddaughter, Abigail Calderon. Those left to cherish his memories are wife, Cecilia Nieves Urban; sons: Mateo Carrasco and wife Hilda, of Austin and Tony Urban and wife Sandra, of Roswell; daughters: Sylvia Calderon and husband Rudy, of Artesia; Christina McDonald, of Dexter; and Sandra Milles and husband Thomas, of Dexter; stepfather, Raymond Silvas; brothers: Bennie Montoya and Ramon Griego; and sisters: Mary Bryant and husband Mike and Candy Guevara. Also, surviving Johnnie are 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gregory Rodriguez and Jonathan Carrasco. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Anthony Urban, Mark Carrasco, Jeffery Carrasco, Mathew Carrasco, Sean Rodriguez and Gabriel Rodriguez. A Viewing will be on Thursday, November 5, 2015, 8:00 AM- 4:00 PM, at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, November 5, 2015, 7:00 PM, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dexter. Funeral services are scheduled on Friday, November 6, 2015, 11:00 AM, also at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at Hagerman Cemetery.
