Mason Lynn Mayes

October 23, 2004 - March 26, 2022

A loving son, and great friend, Mason Lynn Mayes, 17, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022, in Roswell, New Mexico. Please take a moment and share a kind word or memory with Mason’s family at www.andersonbethany.com. A Memorial service will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Friday, April 1, 2022, at 10:00 AM, with Jason Perry conducting the service. On October 23, 2004, Mason was born to Gary Lynn Mayes and Christine Faith Tonkin in Roswell, New Mexico. Mason enjoyed hanging out with friends or just hanging out. He had many hobbies such as mountain biking, skateboarding, playing video games, and baseball. Mason’s most memorable moments were when he would help his father cook delicious meals. Mason has joined his mom in heaven, where he will be “Momma’s Mason” again. His kind and gentle spirit made the world around him a better place. Being a great worker, Mason was an instant friend to anyone he met. He liked helping around the house and would always be cooking and making sure everyone was fed. Those left to cherish memories of Mason are his father, Gary Mayes; siblings: Adam Mayes, William Mayes, and Cliff Riley; aunts and uncles: Pete and Myrna Tonkin, Michael and Bonnie Mayes, Sharon Woods, Dennis Mayes, Jim Mayes, Vernon Mayes, Nora George, Mavis Wilson, and Melba Graveline; nieces and nephews: Josie, Katie, and CJ Riley; close friends: Illiana Sosa, Noah Doerr, Michael Graveline, Angelo Montano, Ruth Tonkin, Faith and Jessica Tonkin, Gideon Perry, Danny Ramirez, Danny Cooper, Kaiden Smith, Thomas Evans, Kaleb Johnston, Anthony Sullivan, Ben Baxter; as well as all his skatepark friends. Mason was preceded in death by his mother, Christine Faith Mayes; grandparents: William Melbourne Mayes, Winifer (Vicky) Morrison Mayes, James Ira Tonkin, and Mary F. Pifes. Special thanks to Noah Doerr and his mother, Danielle, for organizing the candlelight vigil on Monday, March 28, 2022, at the Roswell Skate Park and to all that attended. It really meant so much to his grieving family. Thanks to Jason Perry, Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Artesia, NM, for conducting the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the City of Roswell Parks, 1101 W. 4th, Roswell, New Mexico, 88201. ATTN: Roswell Skate Park, Mason Mayes Fund. Mason’s tribute was written in his honor by his family.
