Olin Wayne Chapin, 73, passed away peacefully on 12/30/2021 in Albuquerque, NM. He resided in Roswell, NM. Wayne was born on 6/27/1948 in Beaver City, OK to Olin and Nina Chapin. He attended school in Farmington, NM and was drafted to the US Army, attended boot camp at Ft. Bliss, TX and AIT in Colorado Springs, CO before serving in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968 as a medic. Wayne married Linda Weir Chapin on 9/15/1971 in Roswell, NM. He and his family moved to Durango, CO in 1977 and later moved back to Roswell around 1992. He worked as an independent operator and drove trucks until retiring in 2005. His passions included working on vehicles, helping people in need and truck driving. Wayne could talk to anyone. He loved animals, especially his two cats. He could typically be found hanging out, having coffee with his Vietnam buddies almost every day. He will be deeply missed by his family, neighbors and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Cathy Chapin, his wife Linda, his son Ricky Weir and granddaughter Shastity Roop. He is survived by his sons David Wayne Chapin (wife Jana) and Charlie Weir (wife Christina); his brothers Richard Kelso and Marvin Chapin (wife Terrell); sisters Naomi Ashcraft (husband Harley), Linda Lee Parks (husband Roy) and Patty Turley (husband Wayne); grandchildren Brandi Henderson, Brandon Shipman, Casey Schulder and Christian Schulder, many beloved nieces and nephews and many more grand and step animals. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 24th, 2022 at 1 PM at Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2915 S. Union Avenue, Roswell, NM 88203, and then the interment ceremony at 2 PM at South Park Cemetery, 3101 S. Main Street, Roswell, NM at the Veterans War Memorial where Wayne will be honored as a U.S. Veteran and laid to rest with his wife, Linda.
