Wilson Roy “Bill” Hicks, 85, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2021, in Roswell, New Mexico. SERVICES: A Memorial Service for Bill will be held on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church, 2420 N. Garden, Roswell, New Mexico, with Pete Crook officiating. On November 15, 1936, Bill was born to Bernard Wilson and Ola Bree Pearson Hicks in Roswell, New Mexico, where he graduated from Roswell High School. He married Onie May Bullard on December 22, 1957, at the home of her sister Mary Helton here in Roswell. He was a lifelong rock and brick mason for numerous contractors around the state until his retirement in January following his sixty-fifth birthday. He was a charter member and Deacon at Bethel Baptist Church and a member of the Bricklayers Union. Bill enjoyed reading and studying the Bible, watching the Dallas Cowboys and being involved in any activity his grandkids were involved in until his health wouldn’t allow him to attend anymore. Bill was preceded in death by his parents: Bernard and Ola Hicks; and one grandson, William Palombi. Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Onie, of the family home; four children: Jo Marie Hicks, Jacquita Beddo and husband Mike, Janetta B. Hicks, and Dan Hicks and wife Elisha; grandchildren: Michael Craycraft and wife Sarah, Vincent Palombi and wife Amanda, Valerie Palombi, Mary Hicks and boyfriend Zach Brown, Joe Hicks and girlfriend Faith Behanna, Josh Hicks, Jeremy Hicks, Jared Hicks, Bowen Duncan, Jacob Clements, Kristen Huddleston and partner Paul Huddleston, Nathan Clements and Jedidiah Beddo and fiancée Maybell Hatch; great-grandchildren: Paige Huddleston, Jakob Smith, Mia Huddleston, Kylee Clements, Aidan Huddleston, Aibhie Clements, Gage Gladu, Isaiah Clements, Clara Palombi, Coulson Palombi, Annabelle Brown, Abigail Craycraft, Kristin Young-Almaraz, Abby Hatch, Elizabeth Hatch and Simon Hatch; as well as hundreds of others that called him Papa Bill. HONORARY PALLBEARERS: Those blessed to serve as Honorary Pallbearers are all his Bethel Baptist Church Family whom Bill loved very much. The family would like to thank the ENMMC staff, Dr. Dake, and Kymera for the wonderful care Bill was given at the end of his life. Bill’s tribute was written in his honor by his family.
