Obituary for Delmer Neal Pope Jr. Funeral services for Delmer Neal Pope Jr., 76, of Roswell will be held at 10 am Saturday, October 20, 2007, at Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Smith of Highland Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery with military honors provided by the Roswell Veteran’s Honor Guard. Delmer passed away Sunday, October 14, 2007, at Mission Arch Care Center. Visitation for Delmer will be Thursday, from 2 to 8 pm, Friday, from 8 am to 8 pm with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 pm, and Saturday from 8 am to service time. A lifelong resident of Roswell, Delmer was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1930, to Delmar Pope Sr. and Minerva K. Boone Pope. Delmer graduated from Roswell High School in 1948 and from New Mexico A & M in 1953. Delmer served his country as a Lieutenant with the United States Army during the Korean War, and was a heavily decorated member of the 4th Army Rifle Team. He was very active in many farm and agriculture businesses in the Pecos Valley. He loved to spend time with his family and friends, having Tuesday lunches with his family, Wednesday lunches with the boys at Billy Ray’s and Friday night dinners with friends at the ELKS. He loved to share with others his incredible knowledge of New Mexico History, cook, entertain friends, spend time in the mountains, and watch his grandson’s play soccer. Delmer was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Fraternal Order of the Elks. Delmer is survived by his children, Neal Pope and his wife, Vicky, Ray Pope and his wife, Kelly, both of Roswell, Mary Anne Lockstone and her husband, Shawn, of Duncan, Oklahoma, and David Pope and his wife, Kim, of Roswell; grandchildren, Nick Pope, Jared Pope, Kendall Lockstone, Trevor Pope, Brittany Pope, Brighton Pope, Macy Pope, Laney Pope, and one on the way (due in January); his companion, Bettye Wooten of Roswell; his longtime companion and friend, Ticky, (his long-haired dachshund); numerous cousins; and a host of friends. Delmer was preceded in death by his parents, second wife, Elmira Welch Pope, grandson, Jon Logan Lockstone, and his longtime companion and friend, Pepper, (his Australian shepherd). Pallbearers will be Shawn Lockstone, Tandy Hunt, Ted and Fred Schrimsher, Jack Goodnight, Gabe Martin, Tim Jennings, Scot Hays, and John Kopcik. Honorary pallbearers will be Martin Yriart, Norman Smith, Pat Boone, Dan Howard, and his grandsons, Nick, Kendall, Jared, Trevor, and Brighton.
