Ethel May Reed

Ethel May Reed, 71, was born on July 21, 1949, and she passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020. During these dates, she lived a very humble life yet leaving a tremendous impact on everyone she met. Ethel was born the youngest of nine children to William Homer Reed and Minnie Lee Charles Reed. She grew up in Dexter, New Mexico, and graduated from Dexter High School in 1969. Ethel quickly found her niche working with babies in the nursery. She spent thirty-four years loving her job and developing long-life friendships. Ethel eventually advanced her career and was proud to begin circulating in the OR for c-sections. After retiring from Eastern New Mexico Medical Center of Roswell, she immediately followed her work family to Lovelace Hospital for another eight years. Ethel never married, but she dedicated her time to caring for her elderly parents. She had no biological children; however, she treated all thirty nieces and nephews as her own. Ethel was present for most of their deliveries with a crochet baby blanket made with love. She also had a lot of great and great-great; we could never name them all but rest assured, for Aunt Ethel knew each and every one of them AND knew their birthdays. Ethel loved spending time with family, whether it was at car races or family dinners. She spent all year long preparing for Christmas and made her famous holiday treats for everyone to enjoy. Ethel spent many months studying our family genealogy, even preparing a family tree for each family member. She was always thinking of others. Ethel was a member of Roswell Baptist Church and is now resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. SURVIVORS: Ethel is survived by her brother, LeeRoy Reed; sister-in-law, Rose Young; nieces and nephews; as well as her beloved dog, Midnight, whom she loved dearly. PRECEDED: Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, William Homer Reed and Minnie Lee Charles Reed; brother and sisters: Orville Reed, Peggy (Ernest) Baca, Charles (LaRue) Reed, Sue (Howard) Vick, Willie (Kay) Reed, Richard Reed, Kathy Reed, Pearl (Larry) Mederios. SERVICES: Pastor David Walden will officiate a Celebration of Ethel’s Life with a Graveside Service at South Park Cemetery on Thursday, October 29, 2020, at 10:30 AM.
