Jimmy G. Lucero Sr.

Jimmy G. Lucero, age 72, of Roswell, NM, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, in his daughter’s home, surrounded by the comfort and love of his family. Please take a moment to share a kind thought or memory with Jimmy’s family at www.andersonbethany.com. He was born on July 30, 1951, in Roswell, NM, to Elfego and Cecelia Lucero. Jimmy was a life-long resident of Roswell, with the exception of the past 2 years, where he lived in Albuquerque with his daughter Angela and her family. Jimmy found great joy in spending time with his family, playing at the casino, eating good food, going for drives, and being outside gardening. He truly loved life and he loved his family with his whole heart. His smile and laughter were contagious and they brightened any room. We have been told countless times, by friends and family, that Jimmy was the kindest man they had ever known. He always had an amazing attitude regardless of his circumstance, by saying “I’m fine, I’m doing just fine”. He always found a way to turn the dark into the light, finding the positive in every situation. Jimmy knew no strangers. He was kind to everyone and he was loved by all who knew him. Jimmy attended Roswell high school, where he graduated in 1969. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1976 due to illness. Jimmy worked at Mann Engineering early in his adult life. Later he was hired at Mountain Bell/US west in 1976. He worked for the phone company until his retirement. Jimmy loved working with his many coworkers, frequently talking about work. We heard countless stories of daily coffee meet ups at Dairy Queen, and many work gatherings. He developed several special friendships with his co-workers. Preceding Jimmy in death was his dad, Elfego Lucero Jr; brother, Elfego Lucero III; his grandparents: Felipe and Elena Gonzales, Abundio (Eddie) Barreras and Helen Montano, Elfego Lucero Sr. and ex-wife, Virginia Gonzales; numerous aunts and uncles. Jimmy is survived by his mom, Cecilia Lucero; children: Angela Lucero-Horton and her husband Paul of Albuquerque, NM, Jimmy G. Lucero Jr. and his wife Amy of Lubbock, TX, Rebecca Armendariz of Roswell, NM; grandchildren: Augustine Lucero, Miguel Garcia, Paul David Horton, Nicolette Brito, Annelise Lucero, Eliana (Lily) Burt, Celia Horton, Avery Lucero, Sophia Gonzales; sisters: Beatrice Romero (partner in crime) and Lydia Gomez; numerous nephews and nieces; Tia Elizabeth (Sugar) Ramirez; numerous cousins and special friend Lupe Morales. Honorary pall bearers are: Augustine Lucero, Miguel Garcia, Paul David Horton, Paul B. Horton, Leroy Gonzales, Floyd Cobos. Jimmy’s kids would like to thank Tia Bea and Tia Lydia, for helping to care for our dad before he moved to Albuquerque. We know you put your lives on hold to care for him. We know it was hard at times. But we will forever thank you for surrounding him with love, kindness and great home cooked food. We would also like to thank Roadrunner Hospice of Albuquerque, and caregivers Stella and Sandra who helped care for our dad. He will be missed more than we can say. We were all blessed to know him and be loved by him. Services will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home, in Roswell. Visitations will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 5PM to 8PM and Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 9AM to 11AM. A Rosary will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 11AM followed by a Funeral Service to begin at 12 PM, with Jimmy’s son, Jimmy Lucero Jr officiating. Burial service will be held at later date. Jimmy’s tribute was lovingly written by his family.
