Joyce Yancey

A memorial service for Joyce Aleen Renshaw Yancey, 73, of Roswell, will be held Friday, June 14, 2013 at 4:00 pm at Christ’s Church in Roswell, NM with Pastor Gerry Chavez officiating. Joyce passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013. Joyce was born on May 1, 1940 to John Thomas Renshaw and Ruth Elizabeth Doggett Renshaw in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. As a child, Joyce traveled extensively through the central and gulf coast areas of the United States as a member of a family band. Joyce played the guitar and accordion, sang and performed with her sister, brother, mom and dad. At a young age the family came to Roswell where Joyce attended elementary school, moving to Greentree and then onto Farmington where the family finally settled in 1953. Joyce was a loving mom, grandmother and devoted Christian, with many friends. After 38 years in Farmington she moved to Roswell to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She could often be seen at their many sporting events and various recitals. Joyce’s faith in God came early in life and carried through to the end. She shared her faith and love of music with others. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Crystal Lee Chaves and her husband, Gary of Roswell, NM; son, Terry Lee Roach Jr. of Las Vegas Nevada; her brothers: Tom Allen Renshaw and wife, Carol of El Dorado KS and Larry Eugene Renshaw and his wife, Cathy of Australia; her sister, Debbie Ann Dougherty and her husband Pat of El Dorado, KS; grandson, Steven Gerald Chaves and his wife, Felicia of Albuquerque NM; granddaughter Rachael Michelle Chaves of Roswell NM; and many loved nieces and nephews. Joyce is preceded in death by her daughter Julianne Michelle Roach, parents, John Thomas and Ruth Elizabeth Renshaw; brothers, Jack Thomas Renshaw, Louis Vernon Renshaw; sister, BettyJo Ann Renshaw Lewis and husband Don Lewis. The family would like to express our gratitude and special thanks to the Dialysis team in Roswell and to Dr. Hector Castro for his compassion and care of our dear Mother. For Gram Whose light could outshine a glow like yours? With hands that could speak a story years long: Whimsical smiles and laughs despite sores, Fasten you home with us, chirping your song: A heavenly phantom whispered a must, For you to ponder at youthful sunrise; “He is not done yet; do not lose your trust”, And thus, respond by widening your eyes; So now, the garden has blossomed near full, Guitars and accordions aide your voice; With loved ones near, felicity brimful, Hugs so sweetly, none other like yours, Joyce; So long as your smile continues to free, No one will instruct, like you have taught me.
