Kay Vasquez

Lucile Kay Vasquez, of Roswell, New Mexico, died unexpectedly in Lubbock, Texas, on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. She was 64 years old. Kay is survived by her spouse, Santiago Vasquez, of Roswell, New Mexico; her children: Christi and Tim Schwalk of Orlando, FL, Cameron and Mandy Cox of Dallas, TX, Veronica and Daniel Vasquez-Jimenez of Roswell, NM, and Chris and Melissa Vasquez of Tampa, FL; and seven grandchildren: Kenley Schwalk, Payton Cox, Emily Lucero, Geoshuah Lucero, Daniel Jimenez, Samantha Jimenez, and Emma Jimenez. She is also survived by brother, Jeff and Cookie Ford, of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Pat and Ronnie Miles, of Santa Fe, NM; and brother, Pierce Ford, of Albuquerque, NM; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Douglas Ford, of San Antonio, TX; her mother, Lucile Ford, of Roswell, NM; and her nephew, Pierce Ford, of Sheridan, WY. Kay was born on October 29, 1951, in Houston, TX. She grew up in Houston, TX, with her brothers and sister. She attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a double major and received two master’s degrees from Eastern New Mexico University. She served as an educator and counselor for the Roswell Independent School District for over 30 years. Kay resided in New Mexico for over 40 years. She and Santiago were married for 25 plus years. They spent many years together making life-long friends. She was very social and attended many events with her close friends, including one of her favorites, her book club. Kay was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, always putting others before herself. She touched many lives with her humorous, kind, generous and caring spirit. Kay’s family and friends will always be thankful for the gift of her life. She came from a proud family of veterans, including her father and uncles who served in World War II. Her great uncle was a World War I veteran. They all received multiple combat decorations. Kay’s brother Jeff was a career Air Force pilot and officer and her nephews have served and continue to serve in the Armed Forces. Her husband, Santiago, is a decorated combat Vietnam veteran. She was a member of the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of local veteran’s organizations. A celebration of Kay’s life is scheduled for Monday, May 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Pastor Garry Schwalk will officiate the ceremony.
