Mary Montanez

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Montanez, beloved wife, mother and friend. Mary was born October 23, 1940, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Isidro and Esther Chavez. She passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016, in Roswell, New Mexico, at the age of 76. Mary was lucky to have met the love of her life Alex. They married on August 8, 1963, in Carlsbad, NM, and soon after began their family. Mary worked at St. Mary’s Hospital from 1963-1972 as an LPN. During her time working as an LPN, she studied to further her career and became an RN in 1972. Mary enjoyed her work and found delight in helping others. She began painting and later realized what a talent she had working with oil paints. Always finding time for her family, Mary treasured every moment she spent with her grandchildren. She loved to shop and would often enjoy special outings with friends. Mary loved to laugh and could always make others laugh along with her. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Those left to carry on Mary’s memory are her husband, Alex Montanez sons: Fernando Montanez, and Marty Montanez and wife, Diane; grandsons: Alex Montanez, Nick Montanez and wife, Jasmine, and Shane Montanez; granddaughter, Jessica Montanez; great-granddaughters: Baylee Montanez and Penelope Montanez; sister, Marsha Chavez. Additional survivors include nieces and nephews and many loving friends. Mary is preceded in death by her parents: Isidro and Esther Chavez; brother, Arthur Chaves, and grandmother, Lola Romo. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church 10:00 AM.
