Rudy (“Pops”) Jimenez April 16, 1942- January 25, 2025 Rudy ("Pops") Jimenez, 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, Nino, uncle, and friend, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family in Roswell, New Mexico. A funeral mass to celebrate Rudy's life will be held at Assumption BVM Catholic Church on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Reception will follow at the Assumption Hall. A private burial will be held at a later date in Trinidad, Colorado. On April 16, 1942, Rudy was born to Joe and Rebecca Jimenez in Clayton, New Mexico. He was the oldest of three brothers. Rudy will be remembered as a long-time New Mexican and supporter of education. His substantial gift was as an educator. His students benefited in a multitude of ways. Rudy graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School in Trinidad, Colorado, in 1960. He attended Trinidad State Junior College and Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado. He graduated from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico, with a Master's degree with honors in Education. He taught for thirty-five years at Agua Fria Elementary School in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His teaching and creativity were inclusive to all his students. He left an indelible mark on his students. In 1964, he met the love of his life, Edna M. Shannon, in Trinidad, Colorado. They were married on June 22, 1968, in Trinidad, Colorado. This June, they would have celebrated 57 years of marriage. In 1975, they welcomed a daughter, Dawn. Rudy and Edna's life revolved around their only daughter; they did everything possible to give her the best life. Rudy and Edna were inseparable. Rudy loved reading about history and watching Westerns and/or any action-packed movies. He loved to binge-watch on Netflix. He loved traveling to visit family and friends. He enjoyed reminiscing about the good old days with his grandkids and sitting in his favorite recliner doing his crossword puzzles. He enjoyed going to the Casino and watching Edna try to "win big." He was a big fan of Snoopy and always incorporated Snoopy into his teaching with his students. He loved listening to music and watching sports, especially football. He was a big fan of the Denver Broncos. Before he became ill, he loved to take his morning walks, count, and keep track of how many steps he had acquired. He loved his sweets, drinking his Chelada beer, along with his Coke with ice! Those left to eternally treasure and cherish memories of Rudy are his wife Edna, daughter Dawn Franco (Manuel); grandchildren Gaige Franco (Caroline), Rylin Franco (Elena), Kelsie Garcia (Joshua), and Jacob Franco; and great-grandchildren Braylynn Franco, baby Madeline Franco on the way and Raiden Franco; brothers: John Jimenez (Joyce), David Jimenez (Jonie), Al Jimenez; Fur babies: Shadow, Zoe, Ash, Azula, Jinx and Chani; as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Rudy was loved dearly, and he will be missed by all who knew him. Rudy's family wishes to sincerely thank numerous friends and family members who took the time to pray and visit him. Special thanks to Dr. Ramya Subgani for all her love and support throughout Rudy's illness. His hospice nurse, Debra Belyeu-Haeny, for her love and care for our entire family during the most difficult time. His three younger brothers, John, David, and Al Jimenez, for all their love and sacrifices they made to stay and help care for Rudy. Special thanks to loving neighbors: Sandy Magnon, Dr. Ramya Subgani, Chitra Subgani, Roohan Kunta, Vijay & Surya Subgani, and Anthony and Thelma Morales. Thank you to extended family members Manuel & Elia Franco, Jay and Barbara Gluck, Valerie Cornejo, and Cindy Burns, all of whom were there to provide support and love for Rudy, Edna, and Dawn. A special thank you to Assumption BVM Catholic Church for their support. We want to express our deepest gratitude to Father Jarek, Father Mike, and Father Abel for their heartfelt prayers over Rudy and compassionate support for our family.
