Sophia Solazzo

Sophia Solazzo, 72, passed away on December 26, 2025, in Lubbock, TX. There will be a visitation at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 6:30 p.m. at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday January 7, 2026. Funeral services will be held at Assumption Catholic Church on Thursday January 8, 2026, at 10:15 a.m. with Father Jarek officiating. Light reception to follow at Assumption Parish Hall. Graveside services will be held at Hagerman Cemetery on Friday January 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. On September 30, 1953, Sophia was born to Adelia Velos in Roswell, NM. She attended Dexter High School where she graduated and also continued her education attending college at ENMU-Portales, NM. In 1973 she married Irby Hernandez and by 1980 she was a young widow with three small daughters. Sophia worked for the Roswell Inn a famous hotel known to Roswell working as the General Manager until the hotel closed it’s doors around 1998. Sophia was also the beloved wife of Thomas Solazzo whom she married in 1997. Both were members at Assumption Catholic Church. Prior to her retirement Sophia worked for the Chaves County offices where she assisted Indigent clients with dignity and respect and made long life friends that became family. At an early age Sophia knew she wanted to work with the public and her community. She became a CASA volunteer advocating for children in their time of need. Sophia had a creative artistic side with a flare for style and decorating. Sophia loved to be out working in her garden and tending to her home. She was a loving caregiver to her beloved mother Adelia whom passed November 30th, 2025. Sophia loved spending time with her family and friends hosting get togethers and parties and being the ever gracious hostess she was. Sophia’s memory will continue to live on through her daughters and family. Sophia was such an amazing, strong, intelligent, and resilient woman who blessed us all with her beautiful soul. Those left to cherish and treasure Sophia’s memory are daughters Victoria Federico and spouse Jose, Rebecca Morones and spouse Adan, and Renee Hernandez and spouse Liz Virrueta all of Roswell, NM. Grandchildren Anthony Federico, Bianca Morones and spouse Johnny Perez, Sophia Vargas, Andrew Federico, Mya Vargas and Vincent Vargas. Great grandchildren Sofie Borunda and Jaylen Perez. Sisters Maria Yolanda Velos of Roswell and Maria Nina Stefhon of Albuquerque, NM and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Also, left to cherish Sophia’s memory are life long friends Yolanda Morales, Ann Montoya, Julia Torres, Carmen Bell, Anabelle Rodriguez and Sandra Rodriguez. Sophia is preceded in death by her mother Adelia Velos, late husbands Irby Hernandez and Tom Solazzo, Aunt Sue Moreno and nephew Pat Stefhon. The family of Sophia would like to extend sincere thanks to ENMMC in Roswell and Covenant Medical in Lubbock Tx for their tireless efforts and unwavering compassion in caring for Sophia during her final days. The day God took you home Our hearts split in two. One side filled with memories, the other side died with you. We often lay awake at night when the world is fast asleep, and take a walk down memory lane with tears upon our cheeks. Remembering you is easy, we do it everyday but missing you is a heartache that never goes away. We hold you tightly within our heart and there you will remain. You see life has gone on without you, but will never be the same. Missing you always our sweet Momma.
