Sylvester Singleton

Beloved father, son, brother and friend, Sylvester Singleton III, 67, passed away peacefully at his home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. A viewing will be held at Anderson Bethany Funeral Home on Thursday, October 12, 2017, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. A private service will be held for family only. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. On May 18, 1950, Sylvester was born to Lonzie Singleton and Luerenzie Dupree Singleton in Center, Texas. Sylvester graduated from Roswell High School, where he excelled in athletics. From there, he attended college in Gunnison, Colorado, on a football scholarship. He returned to Roswell, NM, and started working for Mountain Bell from which he retired. Sylvester was a complicated man with a brilliant mind and had the ability to do anything he set his mind to. His talents were many, but his best attribute was an amazing sense of humor that could be dry and hilarious. Sylvester’s hope for those he left behind was that they would not cry and grieve for him for long. Syl, as he was called, accepted Jesus as his Savior and Lord shortly before his death. He is with his family that have gone before him, especially his beloved daughter, Tanessa. His life's battle is over, and blessed peace is his forever. Those left to cherish Sylvester’s memory are his children: Bridgette Leigh Wallace, Lamar Singleton, Ezekiel Singleton, Elias Singleton, Angel Juarez, Baisayne Singleton; grandchildren: Taylor Wallace, Paryn Singleton, Toroan McKnight, Juwan Singleton, Zanae Singleton, Quiana Singleton, Taniesa Singleton, Joleya Singleton, Dominic Williams; two great-grandchildren; siblings: Sam Singleton, Clarence Singleton, John L. Singleton, Marshall Singleton, Gaynell Wigginton, Mildred Andrews, Cathy Singleton, Mary Dixon, Curtis Singleton, Edward Singleton, Regina Cheadle; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Sylvester in death were his daughter, Tanessa Lanae Singleton; parents: Lonzie Singleton, Luerenzie Dupree Singleton; sister, Liz Woodson; and brother, Lionel Singleton. Those chosen as Honorary Pallbearers are: John L. Singleton, Clarence Singleton, Buck Cheadle, Marshall Singleton, Sam Singleton and Edward Singleton. Pallbearers will be: Michah Singleton, Mark Singleton, Ezekiel Singleton, Tony Strange and Juwan Singleton, Toroan McNight. This tribute was lovingly written in honor of Sylvester by his family.
