Virgil Mills Jr

Virgil Mills was born on January 27, 1944, in Webb City, Missouri. He entered his heavenly home on January 25, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones. Virgil had taken many different roads in his life that he not only enjoyed but was proud of, but none of them compared to his love and commitment to his Lord and Savior. Virgil served in many roles in the church, from bus ministry, Sunday school teacher, Royal Ranger leader, youth pastor, associate pastor, outreach pastor, homeless ministry, and pastoring; as long as he could be active and involved in ministry, he would do just that. Virgil grew up in Webb City, where he attended school and met the love of his life, Elma, in the fourth grade. They attended school together, dated, and eventually married. He and Elma were married for 64 years before she passed away this past September. Being apart for 4 months was a great challenge for him, adding to the health issues that he faced. He grew tired and left his earthly home and joined her in their eternity home with many other family and friends gone before them. Virgil had a passion for people and for loving them. He enjoyed serving others and telling them about Jesus's love for them. Virgil was a walking example of the scripture John 13:34, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." He would love those that others might find hard to love, and he would do that without judgment or regret. Even in the hospital, he always found the strength to minister and pray with those around; on his last hospital stay, he led his "roommate" to salvation and shared all Christ could do for him. Left to cherish his memories are daughter Pam Marquez of Roswell, NM, son Dr. Donald Mills of Boerne, TX, and daughter Rebecca Mills of Roswell, NM.; grandchildren are Star Knight (Val), Adali Gandarilla, and Jenny Gandarilla. Great-grandchildren Luna and Sonny Knight. Virgil has been blessed with many special people who call him Dad and Grandpa. His love and commitment to people are reflected by all those around him. A celebration of life service is scheduled for Monday, February 3, 2025, at 11:00 Gateway Church International, 1900 N. Sycamore, Roswell, NM; Pastor Rick Rapp will officiate. Virgil had another passion in his life, and that was the Kansas City Chiefs, his family is asking for guests to wear football shirts supporting your team if you would like to, as family and church staff will be wearing the Kansas City Chiefs. Virgil's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Gentiva Hospice for taking such good care of their father and helping to make this time more manageable for them. A special thank you to Glenn for caring for Dad and even in his last days, reminding him that his ministry didn't stop till the last breath, and Stacey and Jessica for being more than just the hospice girls but treating him like family and loving on him the way you did. We could not have walked these last few months out without you.
