Walter V. Woodrome

Walter V. Woodrome, 65, passed away on January 12 in Roswell, New Mexico. Family and friends are invited to share a kind thought or memory with Walter’s family at www.andersonbethany.com Walter was born on June 3, 1960, in Roswell to Mary Kay Woodrome and Glenn Woodrome. He attended Roswell High School, where he formed many lifelong friendships that he cherished throughout his life. Though Walter was not a member of a specific church, he held a deep and personal spirituality. He felt closest to God when he was outdoors, surrounded by the natural beauty he loved so much. He often shared fond memories and stories of Boy Scout Mountain, Bonito Lake, Texas Hill, and Macho Draw north of Roswell. Walter was an avid hunter, fisherman, and wildlife photographer. He enjoyed planting and farming and found joy in the wide-open skies of New Mexico, especially watching the clouds and rolling thunderstorms. He loved animals of all kinds but had a special fondness for birds. Over the years, he raised and cared for many birds, large and small, and could often be found sitting quietly in a coop, surrounded by them, thoughtfully contemplating life. He also loved football, and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, standing by his team through every high and low. Walter’s professional life spanned many industries. In his younger years, and again prior to retirement, he worked in the oil fields of New Mexico and West Texas. One of his proudest accomplishments was owning and operating Woodrome Construction during the 90s and early 2000s. Specializing in tile work, Walter took great pride in his craftsmanship and was known for his perfectionism and attention to detail. Walter was a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and lifelong friend to many in the Roswell community. He will be deeply and sorely missed. He is survived by his two sons, Walter W. Woodrome and Glenn Woodrome; his three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jessica, and Walter L.; his brother, Larry Woodrome; and many nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by his partner, Leigh Marney, who passed away just weeks before him, as well as his beloved siblings Nancy, Glenda, Mary, and Glenn Dale. In accordance with Walter’s wishes, there will be no formal services. The family is planning a celebration of life memorial at Walter’s home, with the date and time to be announced. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Gentiva Hospice for the compassionate care provided to both Leigh and Walter in their final days, and to Anderson-Bethany Funeral Home for their support and kindness.
